Why the fuck is casein protein so fucking expensive? I get 5.5lbs on ON whey for $63 but their casein is like $75 for 4.4lbs. I tried looking at myprotein because even though their protein is kinda chalky I know it'll be cheaper. A fucking 5.5lb bag is $114. I have a receipt from 4 years ago and the same size was $40. What the fuck is going on? Anyone have any good casein brands that aren't astronomically expensive?
Ah I should have known better that they would pull some bullshit like this but still
myprotein does this shit on purpose because their garbage tastes fucking horrible and clumps up like rotten baby formula
i would rather spend 115 dollars on 5.5 pounds of ON Casein than any fucking half off garbage from myprotein.
Is MyProtein actually good? Remember getting a 10lbs bag of Cookies n Cream Whey and it tasting absolutely disgusting
No, I thought it was fine back in the day but I've been using some I had left over and it's chalky.
No, it's just repacked cheap chinese protein that now is overpriced cause it's zoomer trendy
from testing done at Labdoor, I think they confirmed that their MyProtein whey protein only had like 60% of the advertised protein in it
Yeah not surprised at all.
Back in 2014 5kg were 50€ FULL PRICE, then zoomers entered their teenages/20s and massiverly started to buy these shits and this + ''muh covid + muh Ukraine muh k1k3s at war'' and they purposely skyrocketed their prices and now without ''discount codes'' 5kg are lile 200€ lol.
For a melamine-filled powders from Huberi labs
Yeah I remember when 5lbs tubs were $57 full price of the ON stuff and I would try my hardest to find any deals to get the price down to $40-45
Now that shit is going full price for $80 a 5lbs tub and $50 is about the cheapest I can ever hope to scoop them up for
Shit sucks but that's life I guess
At this point i'll return to buy ''branded'' proteins
Bro I remember when I first started lifting like 12 years ago i could get tht 10lb bag of ON for as much as I get tht 5.5lb bag now. And creatine used to be disgustingly cheap what goes for over $100 used to be $20
Just do what I do
>Order something I want but consider too expensive
>Wait until it arrives
>Call customer service and tell them that the package came in empty and I need a refund IMMEDIATELY!
works every time
I remember I bought myprotein casein once. That shit was awful, didn't blend for shit and tasted like sand
What brand do you buy now? Only ones I've had are that and ON
Eh I kinda figured protein powders are a waste of money, I've been doing OMAD/IF for a good while and kept all my gains. The only thing that I found to be incredibly important are EAAs, I drink it during the workouts and now I've run out again and my recovery is noticeably longer and worse
idk where you live, but in my country whey has the best buck per gram of protein ratio - by far.
The only cheaper stuff is chicken on sale, and maybe quark on sale.
I get ON off of Amazon. If you look, right now the chocolate suoreme is $71 BUT has a coupon for 30% off with subscribe & save for the 4 pound.
Get this for $50 and then cancel the subscription.
I do this on all my protein & get it for a pretty fair price (for the current market).
I only see the subscribe and save for the 1.8lb not the 3.8lb
NVM I'm retarded I see it for the other flavors. I might try that
I just did this and scored a tub for ~$50
I shoulda bought 4
I do this and used to think it helped which is does but there are more and more studies hitting the street that show Whey being almost twice as optimal and effective for initiating and sustaining MPS while sleeping than casein is. I have a feeling casein's only benefit may be extended windows of preventing muscle breakdown and am seriously considering ditching casein all together for a second Whey shake + milk instead of water for a bit of casein before bed instead of Casein + Milk
>Whey being almost twice as optimal and effective for initiating and sustaining MPS while sleeping than casein is. I have a feeling casein's only benefit may be extended windows of preventing muscle breakdown
By that logic whey makes more sense on a bulk for MPS and casein for cutting when you're trying to preserve muscle
I thought about this almost immediately after posting and will probably switch to Whey shakes at night instead when I'm no longer cutting
You digest whey faster than casein. You should be asleep for 8 hours so you want your body having that protein access to heal and grow through your whole sleep cycle. With whey, its all been stored and put away after a couple hours. I think if you do a little google-fu and you'll see that casein has the advantage at night.
helps if you read the thread or at least the reply chain retardo
Wat m8?
You hit the wrong button or something?
are you just retarded or new bro? lifting for 2 years before posting used to be a requirement on SwoleShack what the fuck happened
anyway, anyone who has been lifting for longer than a year can tell you that the fear of muscle breakdown/catabolism is almost non-existent even while sleeping; you're only at risk while cutting
also why you can get away with a lot less protein while at maintenance/bulking (130g-150g) because your body has enough calories to supply your BMR vs cutting where you need basically 150g minimum
Ergo, it stands to reason Casein is a waste while at maintenance since Whey is almost twice as efficient and works twice as hard at initiating and spiking MPS which is what your main goal is while at maintenance/bulking
That's exactly what you should do. Studies are conflicted at best, and at worst show casein is a meme and a ripoff. The more simple your diet and training is, often the better unless you're an uber pro athlete with phd sports science coaches watching every detail of your diet and training. Get enough protein in your diet every day, and whey is the easiest, cheapest, and simplest way to so this. The rest is israeliteery that aims to get headlines and click bait titles for normies to consoooom their products.
Casein is simply a higher quality product 9/10 because of the manufacturing process. Most whey is still byproduct from acid washing cheese or yogurt and is denatured in some capacity unless cold filtered, which facilitates a price point in parity with casein. Casein provides a large benefit in regulating insulin spikes while sustaining MPS. Most whey will spike insulin as effectively as a carb which maybe detrimental to those fasting or OMAD. Casein may provide relief in this regard.
I guess I'm not debating the obvious benefits Casein has over Whey in sustained overnight MPS and muscle breakdown insurance, I'm still holding to the theory that in all instances except cutting; Whey is still superior in all other aspects when sustaining maintenence/bulking in the general amount of total MPS and peak MPS (almost 2.5x as much). While Casein might sustain a consistent 6 hours of MPS the peak is not nearly as impressive and that benefit is only really seen when there is any risk of muscle breakdown. Whey is king even in overnight shakes considering as I stated before you can mix with Milk to get the benefits of both max MPS peak and sustained overnight MPS. Meal composition and timing is also really only something you should be fretting over at an upper intermediate/advanced stage and 90% of SwoleShack is definitely not at that level
Because the casein from actually produces more than just protein powders, it makes cheese.
this anon gets it. casein has inherently more value than whey, which is just the runoff left over from cheese making.
So the real question is, is it worth it? I used to drink it a couple hours before bed and I like to think it helps but I'm not really sure honestly
I think its yummy. I mix with yogurt and jello pudding mix for my evening snack. Stopped feeling so hungry before bed switching from whey.
Not starving when I wake up, either.
Are you lactose intolerant? Why wouldn't you just buy skim milk powder at this point?
If you think the price is bad, wait until you taste it. That shit is inedible.
If you want cheap casein, make your own cottage cheese or Greek yogurt. Milk is dirt cheap and contains like 100g casein per gallon
>be myprotein 2018
>renowned for amazing taste/purity/cost ratios
>covid hits, ~~*supply chain shortages*~~
>taste goes to shit, quality drops, price skyrockets
I can't be too mad at them in the end though, every protein company is doing this now
Don’t want the word to get out but just eat Greek yogurt anons. It’s almost all casein
cottage cheese is 80% casein and is € 7,45 at kg
Amazon.com
Nutricost casein
You are welcome
Myproton's parent company did some stupid investments and theyre in the red. The only way they can recover is jacking proton prices. The rest of the market saw it and adjusted accordingly and now everything is more expensive.
