In any case I'm poor and its included in my rent so its the best I can do... I've been doing smith machine squats every other session on somewhat lower weight but idk...

Some people do fine on smith machine, but if you dont have a perfect up and down movement it can put excessive strains on your spine at higher loads

just say fuck it to your quads and dedicate leg day to posterior chain leg exercises
hamstring curls / romanian deadlifts / lunges / bulgarian split squats / sliding leg curls / hip thrusts / good mornings.
You should also do lateral / abduction exercises to build your glute meds too.
