That’s literally elementary grade math. You have $580.45 in your account. You spend $55.30 at one store and another $65.22 at another. If you are payed $1522.45 on Friday and rent is $1235 on Monday, how much can you spend over the weekend? The issues with schools (in America at least) is the focus on getting the correct answer rather than learning the process. So while people do learn reading comprehension and math they don’t want to/know how to apply it. They want someone to tell them exactly what to do when faced with a problem rather than apply skills to solve an issue.
I’ve had roommates with engineering degrees ask me how to do laundry. There’s directions on how to wash the clothes on the clothes and on the machine. But because they have never been “officially taught” how to do laundry they have no way of figuring it out. You can’t teach people every single thing they might run up to in life.
