I've been disabled bound to my bed for 6 years and went for my first ever 5 min walk outside yesterday. I wore comfortable shoes but both my ankles are bruised, my big toe feels like it'll fall off, the lower half of my soles are like painful rocks and there's lots of bruises other spots too. What do I do??? I'm 230lbs, is it my weight??? Should I wait until I lose more?
>doesn't walk for 6 years
>why does it hurt to walk now
What illness did you have? You shouldn't just wait to lose weight before walking. If you're getting bruised after walking should go see a doctor about it honestly
Keep walking. Your body will adapt and after a while it won't hurt anymore. Damn man, you're in bad shape. Please do me a favor and walk every day no matter how much it hurts.
bruh shouldn't you get physical rehabilitation therapy for that shit or something?
better never walk again OP, it's the only way to be safe.
do you even lift?
I did lift 4lb dumbbells sometimes in bed but that's it
Uncontrolled seizures, after I broke lots of bones and collapsed in street and got robbed while in a fit my family encouraged me to just stay in bed until the Dr's figured out how to make it stop. Now it's like I'm slowly waking up from a long, bad dream
and how did they make it stop?
Fuck that's rough fren, I hope you get better and slowly your strength and resistance increases. You have to make it because no one is left behind so let's go.
sounds pretty intense, hope this is the beginning of a better part of your life. Are the seizures under control?
>6 years nowalk
>walkmaxx at 230 pounds
Also 230 isn't that heavy. If you were 500 lbs it might be a different story, but half of America is carrying around 230+.
that's great anon, glad to hear you did something. the pain is normal if you haven't used your legs for years. take a foot bath in cold water as long as you can and take 500mg of ibuprofen.
let your feet rest until they dont hurt anymore and go for a similar walk again. if the pain is really bad you should ask a physio therapist for help, maybe consider swimming or something else thats easier on your joints
I first read this as "wanked for the first time in years".
Wait until you feel like your legs have healed completely and then go again. Push yourself, try to go as far as you can, but know when to quit. The more you injure yourself from overexertion the less you’ll be able to walk. Do you have anyone who’s in decent shape who can help you and monitor how you’re doing? Trying to recover alone like that sounds really rough.
I walked 12,000 steps today (a few hours) then got home, lay down a bit, then walked around like a cripple - short little steps, couldn’t move…
I walked 19000 steps back and forth casually to go buy my groceries, keep doing at you'll get better.
12k steps for the first time after 6 years i s too much fren, your arches have probably gotten weaker and putting 12k steps on the straight away is pretty damn harsh. It would happen to anyone if they did what you did. You will be fine, it will just take time. I believe that you are gonna make it chief. Keep fighting
Maybe try some aqua jogging for a couple weeks to get the blood flowing to the area properly. Big congrats on making it out of bed and not giving up
You should consider a trained physical therapist instead of random SwoleShackizens because your case is so extreme. Otherwise, try to walk again once it stops hurting to stand but lower the time spent. You need to balance using the muscles and nerves with your ability to heal the strain. If you cant use your legs, consider using dumbbells, push-ups, or even just arm circles to practice increasing your heart rate.
I can't do a pushup yet, I get really sore just squatting ten times and lifting dumbbells overhead
The soreness will go away with time. If you cant do a pushup then lay on your back and mime the motion.
I was off my ankle for only a month before I tried to walk again, and it was weird my big toe was sore after walking. It got better but i think the transition might have been easier had I got some physical therapy or massage aswell.
Was there a reason you couldn't just walk around your house during those 6 years?
I do but it's not the same as asphalt I guess?
Fair enough, good luck with your rehabilitation anon.
are you on welfare?
Well done. Keep going.
The other guy was right about the pool, too. See if you can't get in with the water aerobics grannies. Not even joking. They have floaties and lifeguards in case you have a seizure.
You need to stretch and do mobility exercises pretty much everyday. Then you need to ease back into walking don't do more than a km a day and work your way up. Also get a decent pair of 200$ reeboks or asiics
Good luck with your journey bro
By the way you described it, sounds to me like your shoes were a little too comfy, as in loose, and maybe not exactly walking shoes
Did you lace up properly?
First of all you should do physiotherapy or something. If you cant afford it then do slow exercises.
Since you havent done it in 6 years I would suggest
A) Looking up other people who were stationary for long periods of time and
B)How to walk. Yes im serious because your habit of normal walking might have been broken and maybe you are walking with a flat foot or something.
I would assume your muscles must have evaporated ober such a long time so dont go too hard at the start. Walk around the house, once comfortable walk along the driveway etc. Baby steps as they say
Look up coma/bed bound rehab videos on YouTube or something don't ask regards here for rehab advice this is a board for general fitness - which you are far from rn
