          Mentzer didn't invent that, but that is the best form for skullcrushers. Your head doesn't need to quite hang off the bench but it is easier to get the form right if you do that. The important part is that your arm shouldn't be fully perpendicular with the floor at lockout, there should be an angle so there's still tension on the triceps.

      the only correct way to do these is with cables.
      doing it with freeweights, you have almost no tension at the top of the rep, the tricep isnt doing anything. with a cable, tension on the muscle is through-out the entire movement.

      If you do them "correctly" you can mitigate this and get tension throughout the whole range of motion.

      I think I read it in strength training anatomy that best triceps exercise is laying dumbbell skullcrushers. It trains all 3 heads equally in that position. It does somewhat require a very precise technique though.

    I can never sustain good form on rope extensions for more than 5-6 reps per set unless I’m doing light weight. After 7 reps I can’t push + twist the rope all the way. I only ever do tricep pushdowns using the V-bar

    the best triceps exercise by far is the dip
    second best is lying tricep extension

    rope pushdowns are a decent 2nd exercise, after you do one of the big ones above
    tho i certainly prefer it with a v bar instead of a rope
    im also very fond of reverse grip cable tricep extensions, again as a 2nd exercise.

      I think they're great, they can hurt your elbows but the thing about that is you can instantly tell if something hurts because it hurts and you can just stop doing it. It's not like it'll feel fine and then one day your elbow tendon will snap right off, it'll feel like shit and it'll get worse if you ignore it and it will improve if you stop aggravating it. You've got to be pretty stupid to actually injure your elbow in almost any case

    I gave up on everything other than cable pushdown. I do so much pressing to begin with, I will just end my chest day with 6-7 sets of cable pushdowns each to failure and call it a day. We are all amateurs I doubt it would make a big difference trying to hit the triceps from different angles and whatnot.

        elbow is a "hinge joint" but you almost never use it that way in practice. so try to get the right rotation through the arm on extension.
