Terrible doctor advice thread

I had bulked up to near the overweight BMI threshold. I asked my doctor how much weight I could gain before it became a problem. He said so long as I was exercising it would never become a problem and I should just keep gaining weight forever. I've been getting knee pain when I run and he told me to go buy new shoes. This fucking goblin's medical advice is to get fat and buy shit.

I'm pretty sure he was trying to sabotage me-- he was one if those flabby, collapsing mestizos with the gay accent that you see talking about body representation on social media. I can't believe my insurance paid $400 for this.

how did he become ur doctor in the first place?

He's not even my doctor. My "doctor" is some Indian guy who I haven't met in the four years I've been his patient. Whenever I go in I see a random nurse practitioner. For all I know my doctor doesn't exist at all.

Well that'll explain your problem anon. Demand to see legit dr, not his cunt of an assistant that is there to peddle shit.
Also, sports medicine doctors are the best. Try to get a referral (HMO) or just make your own appt (PPO).

Homie if you have knee pain your knee is either weak, you need new shoes, you're too fat or any mix of the above

      Uvo11

Now that's some good fucking medical advice. The knee weakness thing would make sense. Any lifts for strengthening knees?

Also, do shoes really matter? I assumed it was all bullshit because I ran barefoot for years with no problems.

Lmao that's it? I'm mid bulk with a BMI of 28, well into overweight category. And when I finish my bulk my BMI will be 34.

      Uvo11

That was the heaviest I'd ever been. I wasn't sure how far I could go before it became an issue. I've since decided to never bulk again and just stay lean. I'll never get big, but I will stay healthy and outlive that faggy brown lardsack of a nurse practitioner.

Bulking to BMI 34 sounds pretty extreme. I don't know if the whole "set point" thing is true, but I wouldnt want to risk it. What will you cut down to?

When I was a kid a fell down a flight of stairs and hurt my back. Had bad back pain on and off for the following 8 years. Went to physio. Never once was told to exercise, got to the point where I thought I was fucked. Learnt how to workout, now I have no more back pain

Similar thing with me, I used to suffer from chronic joint pain, wrist pain and back pain. It went on for years but the pain went away almost straight away when I started working out, havent had issues in years. It's like I have peasant genetics lmao, my body is built for moving heavy objects from point A to point B, wont do well from sitting around sedentary all day

The medical industry in general is a scam to mine your body for profit. Dentists do it too, when I was 18 I was told all my teeth needed extracting, which would happen to cost a fortune. I told my dentist to go fuck himself and never went back

40 years old now and my teeth are all still good, never had any issues. You should never visit a dentist or doctor unless you're actually in pain and have a problem that needs fixing, otherwise you WILL get scammed.

      Anonymous

I didn't WANT to become like this, but I've grown to agree with it. I go to the dentist regularly because my guy doesn't push crazy shit and cleans my teeth no drama. But most of my other doctor experiences have lead me to this feeling. Go in for something and wind up being strung along and never let go and having to a of expensice shit pushed at you, and I rarely feel like I am listened to about what I'm experiencing and just led down a clueless and endless track. Specifically, I have had skin problems like eczema on and off my whole life, generally with a severe outbreak every like 6 or 7 years. Its something I need relief from at the time but always subsides in time, and the hoops I've been led through when I've just tried to see specialists for an outbreak have been ridiculous and unending. The most recent one this past year seemed like it was all just to lead me to a lifetime injection medication that costs my insurance 40k a YEAR and sends yoy all these pamphlets, calls you all the time, is only available through a specialty pharmacy; ludicrous and CLEARLY big business. By the time we got to it, I'd been going to appointment after appointment abd, really, rhe outbreak had subsuded anyways for months (this is mot a chronic condition but an occasional one); I was uncomfortable going on it, if it seemed to "work" its something they want you on for life ($$$$$); and I absolutely said "No way" when after a few weeks it gave me a painful shingles outbreak, apparently a known side effect among others, let alone hadn't done shit for my eczema yet, and the doctor STILL was trying to pysh me to keep going with it. Fuck this shit, man, it opens your eyes to how its all a money making business. I'll go to CVS Minute Clinic from now on, I've gotten better results and immediate, cheap service from them moresothan most doctors tbh.

Thanks dude. I'll add a couple more terrible ones from friends. Had a friend who went to a doctor for a lump on one of his balls; the lady was literally ready to schedule him to have it lopped off "just in case." He was freaked and saw someone else who actually looked into it; turned out to be nothing, a benign cyst or something. And another good one, a friend in high school was put on accutane, told the doctor he felt like he was having a hard time concentrating (I guess it can have these side effects?) and his doc told him "you don't really need to concentrate." (His parents ended up walking away from thst doctor too)

have you considered you've probably just got a shit body because you never fed it nutritious food?

That would have been an excellent question for him to ask. He didn't even realize I was bulking on purpose-- his medical opinion was that you should gain weight unintentionally until you die. I can just see his fat fucking face as he said it too..

just fast when you're ill, eat healthy, don't be obese, and exercise. it's literally that simple.

I'm starting to think you're right. I might need surgery on my foot, but after that I don't think I'm going to see anyone unless I have a specific, tangible medical complaint I can't address myself, like a detached tendon.

If you want a good doctor, go to a fit doctor. Goblins and fatsos won't be able to help you. As long as you aren't deformed like them and worse, they won't see an indication to help you strive for perfection.

Update: I went to an ortho appointment today because my foot still hurts from an injury 4 months ago. I went to the ER when it happened because I couldn't walk, and then asked about it again at my last doctors appointment. They all diagnosed it as a stubbed toe and it was fine and to ignore it.

The ortho told me the reason it still hurts and i still can't move my fucking big toe is is probably because the tendon has been ripped off, and I need an MRI and likely surgery. Holy shit I hate my fucking doctor for telling me I had a stubbed toe.

Just Canadian healthcare. I needed a neck surgery and if they discharged me I would have to wait longer. So I got to stick around after surviving a week in the ICU from a major immune system attack that tanked my white blood cell count.

damn. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but hospital life sounds pretty great. Walking the halls in a white gown, eating like a king from the storage cabinet.

You would probably like Catch 22; it's a novel about a bomber pilot who keeps trying to escape the insanity of military life by going to the hospital.

you basically cover next to nothing nutrition wise in medical school, and there is now the big push for healthy at all sizes. Some doctors peddle this shit because fatties can go off the handle and kick up a stink.

you're better off seeing a sports physician who deals entirely in all these areas

      uvo11

are you a med student/doctor? If so, am I right to think that doctors don't give a fuck about lifestyle solutions anymore? I swear the last time I went to the doctor he didn't ask me a fucking thing about my diet, exercise, sleep, meditation, etc and just tried to get me back on adderall and antidepressants. It's almost like he wanted me fucked up and on pills.

He also freaked out when he saw I'd lost a bunch of weight from the last time I was there. When I gained the weight the previous fat fuck hadn't blinked an eye, but when I lost it the next fat fuck kept asking me to explain myself.

I didn't realize how much retarded medical shit I had seen until I made this thread.

Dentist, but have a lot of doctor friends who have talked at length about all of this, and we encounter the same thing. it's the path of least resistance and trying to maintain a patient-practitioner relationship. A lot of people (outside of the truly deluded) know theyre fat. Whether they care or not is another thing, but pushing too hard on it can create a real defiance and you lose any ability to create any other positive changes. It ultimately becomes a negotiation of what content is covered in that appointment and with healthcare the way it is cost wise, the idea of the annual check up where your doctor might say hey you're a bit fat isn't a thing and people only go when they're on the verge of death.

so yeah there's three camps. The endlessly pushy, the pragmatic and the pushover who doesn't want to offend

          god trips confirm.

I guess it's hard to blame them. If I had to see patients off the street all day I suppose I would just tell them whatever they wanted to hear as well.

Do dentists have the same problem? What do they not tell their patients?

There's really not much use to go to a doctor unless you're really fucked up by specific symptoms and need a diagnosis or you want something specific out of them: (drugs, blood test, surgery, referral)
There's no compelling reason to visit a general physician regularly, all they do is take your blood pressure, squeeze your balls and touch your stomach. Learn to pay better attention to your body, and note down when something feels off or painful.
Plus, you should be able to see whether or not you're a fat fuck, and it becomes an aesthetic issue way before it becomes a health issue you dumbfuck.

      uvo11

You're right: from now on if I have a specific, tangible health problem I'm going to see a specialist. the annual checkup is a scam.

I still literally have no idea how much weight you can gain before it becomes a problem. I was at 24.5 BMI and I cut down to 20 BMI because I realized the nurse practitioner I asked no idea what he was talking about.

I got some bloodwork done years ago when I hadn't been sleeping right for half a decade and had really weird pain where my kidneys are. The doc tells me that my cholesterol is a little high, talks about statins, and tells me to EAT MORE VEGETABLE OIL. WTF? Seriously... didn't even acknowledge any of my reasons for getting the bloodwork done. Another doctors visit I get put on statins. I ask for advice about what I can do to fix the cholesterol and the response is basically, "No idea." Not on statins anymore. Haven't had bloodwork since. Changed my own diet. Lost weight. Avoiding docs and psychiatrists as much as possible now.
