        I have been lifting for 15 years and I can tell you now if Ivan switched to an actual high volume brosplit he would grow. He goes weeks/months without doing any upper body work, and when he does any, its a few sets, then stops for weeks again.

        If he actually did 10-20 hard sets per week for every upper body muscle he has, he would make major gains.

        Your time spent in the gym doesn't mean shit if you aren't stimulating anything, fucking moron.

Some people will forget to stay lean and they will get fat but compounds build the most muscle. Martin berkhan is a big advocate for this and so is Mike ohearn. Arnold could deadlift like 700 lbs and squat 500. This idea that heavy compounds are not need for a great physique is just nonsense.

                That's not been my experience. I've increased strength steadily on my bro split after switching from U/L and full body strength programs. I start each workout with a 3x5 compound, which is still steadily going up 2.5kg per week. And I look infinitely better than before, the muscles are more shapely and the flexible programming with lots of isolations allows me to target small weak points. I'm anticipating a >post body so here you go.

        When I did 5x5 for like 2 months, I stopped because my back was killing me and my lifts were decreasing because I didn't want to hurt my back more.
        I switched it out for some other routine and it made shit way better.
        I'm doing PHUL atm and I really like how it separates lower and upper on days.

        squats are fine and dandy as a beginner because you use low weights and the overall stress on your cns is limited. as you get stronger and the weight progresses your cns doesnt progress on the same level as your muscles. someone who does 100lb squats until failure has a much easier time to recover than someone who does 400lb squats til failure. same increase on fatigue on your cns also applies to your lower back. most people who recommend heavy ass squats dont lift heavy enough or straight up dont care about their body in the long run.

        True but you also need to define “heavy”. A 225-275lb squat for a 150-175lb man is heavy enough. Especially if they are doing 8-12 reps. Similar weight for deads. Now if the person is 225+ this changes the game considerably
