why do i never see anyone doing pull ups in the gym? its always people using the lat pull down with shit form , i can say that they are most complete back exercise, its what a made my back progress fast , lat pulldowns were barely doing anything

>mastering the pull up
>utilizing different variations
>rows on days i don't focus on back for shoulder health
Really brings you into the next level, people who skip pull ups probably don't enjoy compounds as much but they are missing out
When people do pull ups they have to face the reality that their 'bulk' just made them fat, and they don't like looking weaker than the skinny kids.
Perhaps most people have a bar at home and do them at home. Pullups benefit from frequency so a home bar is best.
>spinning my wheels for years doing chin ups, pull ups, weighted chin ups, archer pull ups, chin ups with one hand on the wrist of the other
>invisible lat mode
>start doing lat pull downs with resistance bands and heavy pull overs
>lats begin to grow
I still do chin-ups now and then, because they impress normies and could be helpful in certain situations, but for hypertrophy they didnt work for me.
Oh, and I forgot the ring pull ups
Prob shit form
Probably. Dont care, will still do stuff thats easier to do correct and get results out of,
All you people who think you can see an individual muscle start growing when you do a certain exercise are probably just imagining it
>probably hurr, probably durr
Yeah whatever bro. Lat pulldowns have their place and no kind of minimalism cope will change that. Pull ups are a good compound exercise and a good way to show off how strong you are tho.
I can't imagine how shitty your form was.
Deadhang to chin above the bar, no momentum, up to 12 reps.
How many sets of 12? Bodyweight, height?
1, on the second and third its more like 9 or 10.
192cm/93kg
yeah that is shit form, you don't want to deadhang, gotta keep those lats under tension constantly
Source?
the reason you got gains from lat pulldowns was because you got a better mind muscle connection
and with pullovers you literally cannot escape the lats "catching" the weight like you can with pullups
i had the same problem, honestly pullups are deceiving because it's easy to do them for performance and all you need is a bar, they are still S tier if you do them right
thanks for clarifying. Yeah I love the stretch feeling of pull overs.
All these cuck not believing you lmao... My lats started expanding outward with rows in my case. Pull ups did give me hypertrophy, but they mosty improved my frame and developed the muscle around the scapula
My right forearm is fused from a childhood injury so I have no rotation in my wrist.
Pull ups put too much strain on my wrist so I cant do them without tons of pain and shit form.
Most of my excersizes are modified to adapt to this injury.
I cant do normal curls for example, only hammer curls, so I have to use the cable machine and a rope attachment to target my bicep in the same way.
Have you tried using straps for pullups? Could it make a difference? I recently started using them and i feel like I can focus more on the movement and get a few extra reps in
damn, i fucked my wrist up pretty bad about 20 years ago on a motorcycle, and i've been the same ever since.
>t.hammer curl only bro
Easier to get more volume in and focus on form and stretch with every rep
Most people in the gym probably can’t do more than 3 or 4.
>Weigh 90kg
>Lat pulldown 80kg for reps with good form
>85kg Bent over row for reps
>Start doing pull-ups again
>Can't do more than 5 bodyweight reps
it's been a month and I still can't add reps. it's so over
>lat pull down
Doesn't engage core
>bent over row
Barely engages core
>pull ups
Fully engage core
Think I found your solution anon, 5 reps at your weight isn't an easy feat though. Just keep at it
you did not find the solution
He did
I used to do pull ups without an engaged core and they were much harder than squeezing my glutes, hamstrings and sucking stomach in (might get a cramp though)
>lat pull down
>Doesn't engage core
Try doing it with over 70kg and we`ll see
>bent over row
>Barely engages core
nagger are you serious
>pull ups
Fully engage core
Only right one.
Try training back with anything other than baby weights and your core will work as shit. I always feel exhausted after a back training not because I feel my back tired, but because my core works overtime.
>Try doing it with over 70kg and we`ll see
Heavier weight with poor form < lighter weight with proper form
>bent over row
Compared to a proper pull up it engages core way less lol
Moving around weight like a retard and feeling it in your core because you do it incorrectly doesn't do anything for you. Enjoy your injury inducing methodical faults if that means your ego feels better, I was just advising anon on how he could progress with his pull ups
skill issue
You aren’t doing them frequently enough.
They'll switch to pull ups after they get a hemorrhoid.
my mind muscle connection on pullups is very good but lat pulldowns never feel right
what i do on pull days
day 1 pull ups, day 2 chin ups
chest supported dumbbell rows
day 1 straight bar cable curl , day 2 dumbbell hammer curls
face pulls
need anything else besides deadlifts to hit all pull muscles?
I add in upright rows, shrugs and (reverse wrist curls). Often as supersets, so I dont need to work out for hours.
Pull ups hurt my shoulder. In lat pulldown I can lean back little and pain is gone.
>why do i never see anyone doing pull ups in the gym?
They're hard. Imagine being a muscular male and having to rely on a stretch band to be able to do decent reps. The embarrassment is simply to much, so they stick with the lat pulldown machine.
>muscular
>can’t do pull-ups without assistance
Lmao
watch the video of eddie hall doing pull ups
Nice extreme outlier, if you weigh 150kg and can’t do pull-ups there is a 99.99999% chance it’s because you’re just an obese lard not because you’re a top tier strongman with very specific training methodology that neglects vertical pulls.
You can be muscular with underdeveloped areas genius. Just look at your average leg skippers for examples. But your post perfectly illustrates why backlets prefer pulldowns.
If you can’t do pull-ups you are not muscular with very few exceptions.
(checked)
I'm of course talking about a decent volume, say 3x6 at least. But regardless, those few exceptions make up a fairly large number of the people OP is talking about.
>Just look at your average leg skippers for examples
Hey, keep me out of this.
>its always people using the lat pull down with shit form
Because I can barely handle 70kg pulldown with proper form while weighing 78kg, it's that simple
same i never see anyone doing them except one guy i see sometimes that does weighted pull ups
i do them at the start of every back work out and they are my favourite exercise
the pullup bars at my gym are always way to fucking far apart. I like to do pull-ups just a bit wider than should lengths but the ones at my gym isn't 1 solid bar where you can adjust your grip, it's 2 separate peices that are so far apart I hate them
My back muscles never felt sore when I do pull-ups. I never got doms from doing this exercise.
kek what happened to this guy? I don't think I've followed the saga since 2014 or so
I was able to catch the lat machine for the first time and i was able to do 4 sets of 10 reps with 45kg on my first try. I weight 85kg, should i just leave the lat machine to women and dyels and do assisted pullups with 40kg? The assisted pullup machines are rarely used and always free, so i dont have to wait for normies to end their homosexualtry.
>also
I tried on saturday doing unassisted pullups for the first time in my life and i was able to do 3. I stopped because i felt my abs were going to pop
You should do pull-ups if you can even do one and then do them with bands when you can’t do more
Sets of 10 until you can do 10 unassisted and then start adding weight
I always do it
Got golfers elbow from doing heavy weighted pullups so I switched to lat pulldowns and the pain has subsided but not disappeared completely. Sometimes I do a set of pullups but the pain comes back. It's over.
I don't do pullups with my regular workout because if I do them first then it fucks up the rest of my lifts, and if I do them last it looks super embarrassing because I can barely manage to do more than a few. Also I liked to go to failure, then use bands to get a few more, but I will NOT let my gym crush see my struggling to do an assisted pull up
pulls up are really nice, but most don't go for a full extension. most meme it like barely halfway down
Because most people can't do pull-ups. They also don't use progressive overload on the lat pull down so they never strengthen their back even to the point of being able to do something as simple as pull-ups. It's funny how many people there are who have lifted for years and years and have fuck all to show for it.
I do pull ups on a pipe in my basement
by "a pipe in your basement," do you mean the penis of a strange man that you met online?
haha that's pretty gay, bro
>want to do pull ups
>have elbow tendonitis
feels bad man. I can only do lat pull downs to train back
Try neutral grip, may help.
Pain is just pain entering the body
>guy at my gym takes a step
>jumps
>catches the bar
>hangs for a about a second
>slowly lowers himself
Is this a real exercise or is he just goofing around? I've never seen this before.
These are called negatives and you start with doing these when you can't do a few regular pull ups yet
it's gay shit just lift weights lmao
>Its what a made
i do 30x1 or 50x1. however long it takes. yes im fat.
