Power Cleans

Does anyone here even do these anymore? Never seen anyone in my commercial gym do them. I know Rip swears by them, by I look like a complete mongoloid when I try to do them. Should I even bother to keep trying without a coach?

i do because i compete in strongman but if you have no desire to compete in strongman or weightlifting they are a total meme when high pulls exist
if you have no sport specific reason to have a good front rack then just do high pulls, youll get all the explosive benefits without having to waste time learning the front rack technique

I don't do any sport, but I do them (and snatches) because they're fun. You don't have to prevent yourself from having fun just because some homosexual on SwoleShack tells you not to.

I don't care. I'm not going to stop doing them just because you say they're a meme.

High pulls look fun, and it seems many old school greats did them for their huge backs.

        they are very fun

        >High pulls are more fun than cleans
        >High pulls are more safe than cleans.
        >High pulls are more efficient than cleans.
Lmao what? Every time I try to do high pulls I get lower back spasms. I literally try with lighter weight than what I clean, but still somehow can't do a full rep.
Never had a problem with power cleans.

Yeah stopping all that weight once it's up in the air isnt great on the back
I replaced them with power shrugs on the smith machine. The mechanism that slows the bar as it falls on a smith machine really saves the back. Only good use for a smith machine.

high pulls are amazing, they hit traps like no other pull or row

don't learn them alone or you might hurt yourself

seems like something you don't want to do with your max weight hability, many of those movements seem like a taxi to snapcity

I like hang cleans too. Did them yesterday for the first time in a long time. My traps are dead today

eh, you're not competing, who cares?
      just grip and rip it

      What are you doing wrong?
Are you getting the form wrong on lower weights? With cleans and with snatch, it can sometimes be more difficult to get the form with lower weights because you're easily able to cheat.

i can't keep the bar close to my body so i end up doing a halfass work with my legs and requiring too much shoulder strength to get the bar up
you're supposed to basically only use your legs
also i fuck up the timing where you twist your arms to bring the bar on your shoulders (i do it too late)
the whole thing feels so unnatural to me

eh, you're not competing, who cares?
        just grip and rip it

checked and yeah i just want to avoid visiting snapcity. i only use baby weights now (even lower than what women use) until i'm sure i got it right

          >just want to avoid visiting snapcity
well yea, that's a given. but for just general lifting you'll still get decent carry over and explosiveness even with poor form (see every football weight room ever)
I've tried teaching myself better form and to do full cleans, but as soon as the bar starts getting heavy, I revert back to my poor instinctual form. I know my triple extension isn't there, I have slow catch, and I'm popping the bar with my quads instead of my hips. I may not throw up 3 pl8, but I'm still making good gains with 2

I like training cleans separately to push press. I'll probably do c+p one in every 3-4 sessions.

They're essential. Using a rack for any exercise is cheating (yourself). You have no business lifting a weight you cant actually lift. All that work you did and all that food you gluttonized for weights you didn't clean is just so much wasted energy.

I clean every Sat. It's my Oly day. I taught myself via YouTube and lots of practice. I started with full cleans though, catching the weight at the bottom in a squat. It is the BEST exercise.

I hit 260 last summer but most weeks I do 10x1 225lbs after an oly style warmup

Stick with it king. It keeps you young and athletic. I'm 43

Yep. Age 58 and do full squat snatches every workout. As you get older, power and explosiveness > raw strength

we used to do them all the time back in high school football. good for the explosive energy you need on the field.

Do them 4 sure but avoid Rippetoe instruction. Jump and shrug are bad cues.
