This is well established in the scientific literature.
Most guys with low T have low SHBG and most guys with high T have high SHBG.
SHBG is the driver of test levels for various reasons I will not explain unless you really want to know.

Firstly, the body wants to maintain a certain level of free testosterone and free estrogen. These are the signals that the hypothalamus and pituitary glands are sensing and regulating.
When you raise SHBG, free T and free E start to lower.
The brains feedback loops sense the lower free T and E, and increases luteinizing hormone (LH) production in order to increase testosterone output from the testicles.
(A similar effect happens if you take clomid, the clomid blocks the estrogen signal to the brain which makes the brain try to make more testosterone to increase estrogen back to normal)
The increased LH causes testosterone to increase which increases free T and free E back to normal baseline.
Secondly, another effect that SHBG has is that it increases the half life of testosterone in the bloodstream before it gets metabolized by the liver and excreted out the body.
Increasing the half life of testosterone via binding to SHBG allows it to build up in the bloodstream to higher levels.
It's via these two mechanisms that increasing SHBG increases total testosterone, and vice versa lowering SHBG will lower total T.

Some people's systems may be able to handle those things, mine not though. I used to eat pistachios and peanuts every day and ended up dropping them.
