They also don't eat that much pasta. They eat meats, lot's of fish, and veggies. The pasta thing is American Eye-talians.

Also we eat waaaaaaaay more oil than them. Dipping a piece of bread in olive oil isn't the same as eating processed food where half the calories are from hydrogenated oils to keep it shelf stable and tasty.

They spend a lot of time walking. I'm totally fucking serious. Even old chubby Italian people are WALKING around all the time, socializing, and doing things like that. They talk, have sex, drink wine, enjoy the sunshine.

    It's the same with Greeks.

If you take any of them and transplant them to car-centric shithole suburbia in the US or Canada, their health expectancy goes down.

Also their foods are more natural in Italy. I did a semester there. People made their own wine on their villas. Ingredients were all local, too. Local grain, veggies, fruits, meat.

Compare that to all the trash factory-processed shit most westerners eat (i.e. if you don't live in farmland and can buy local).

Yup. /misc/, but as a sicilian by blood it's sad to see (my grandparents immigrated here to america). Only been back to sicily and the rest of italy a few times over the years, but seeing the decline there (along with the rest of yurop) has been rough.

I live in a rural place in the US though so everything here is actually "farm fresh". and I'm obviously physically active. whenever I'm in a city though for either school, travel, fun, work, or vacation, it's crazy seeing all the slop even at higher end specialty grocery stores. and people who are stressed out and strung out on medications and take transit everywhere instead of walking or biking and are constantly breathing in pollution.

yea my body is probably polluted from insecticide and stuff too from the farms and some factories, but whatever.

          Anonymous

Not sicilian but northerner here, been down to ''your'' island thrice (literally another country compared to my native region, i like it btw, a lot)

As i wrote, we're in a ''fat/processed food epidemic'' as you were in the '80s.

EU confederal laws are, on paper, stronger than national laws so we're kinda forced to implement them. So the ban of HFCS was left in 2019, same for transgenic tomatoes, etc. Canola oil is still very rare here, buti've seen it at least twice in some ethnic indian/bangladeshi and hispanic bodegas

And since most of the zoomers eat american goyslop and desperately want to act african americans, listen trap music have the broccoli hairs and are into ''muh gang culture n sheet'', we're destined to be a carbon copy of USA also in the obesity matter

            Anonymous

Nice! Yea, I say I am sicilian because it's a bit different, but I like the unity of the nation (as do most sicilians I think). we are all brothers, even us more violent and criminal ones from the south haha. I don't know italian politics too well but it's funny, because on the one hand you have criminal sicilians who emigrated to the US to continue syndicate activity here, but yet are still in close-knit cultural groups. sicilian immigrants usually dont like Mussolini (I do though), because he was bad for business, but yet those same sicilians now look and go "ah it's so sad what is happening to italy now" lol

Because looking back, we can see the cultural degradation in sicily as well as italy as a whole now. and it's the syndicates that are also responsible for importing africans and refugees into the rest of italy, too, to work as soldati. the irony is rich. I'm straight edge, studied hard, got into a good STEM program, working my way up in the engineering world, but I wish the terra patria would get its shit together and people would work hard for a brighter, independent Italian future.

As for the rest of your post, ugh... so sad..

They don't. Their diet is much more animal-based than the American/Anglo diet. Same with the French. It's some sort of weird revisionism to say that they live on bread and pasta. That's actually what western tourists eat when they go to Italy because they are scared by weird cheeses and fish.

There has been an attempt to revise what people eat in "blue zones" by vegans, not just in Italy but other parts of the world. They pretend Okinawans are vegetarians for example when they eat an enormous amount of pork and fish.

I've noticed vegans doing that with blue zones, though they just ignore Hong Kong because it has the highest meat consumption in the world.
