I am doing computer science and I barely have any free time. It's all just studying, gym, cooking, sleeping and working part-time 10h. This cannot be it, right? Maybe I am retarded? The workload is insane, where even is the payoff for this madness?
I am doing computer science and I barely have any free time. It's all just studying, gym, cooking, sleeping and working part-time 10h. This cannot be it, right? Maybe I am retarded? The workload is insane, where even is the payoff for this madness?
>where even is the payoff for this madness?
in a few years when you're making 6 figures
Is the money really worth it missing out on the college life? I will graduate late at 27 (including a Masters degree) because I started late. No money can give you back the fun university experience. I have a friend who is studying business and he fucks tons of pussy all the time and goes to parties, events, does lots of sports, had 2 girlfriends.
It is when your 50 and retiring brother
Retiring as a 50 years old kissless virgin who never had a girlfriend?
>Is the money really worth it missing out on the college life?
I would take the fucking whores in Europe life over the 'college life'. Also it's nice knowing you will not be working until you die. Money > pussy
Lol cope that fantasy doesn't sound as nice when you finally get to afford to live it in reality. Healthy socio sexual development in uni is fucking everything.
>T. Guy who missed out on uni life but made millions
Money = pussy
Retarded incel poorfag take
sexually attractive traits will get you women. money isnt one of them. money makes you first and foremost a john/paypig.
If you’re actually capable of doing that stuff then go for it, you’ll make a decent wage with business. If you’re incapable like most other cs majors then stay the course. It’s money for nothing, also consider your job is eating a ton of your free time as well.
it's not worth it tbh. youth is wasted on the young as they say
Sort of. University isn't the be all end all for having fun. You can have plenty of fun as a yuppie.
you can still have fun at university and college life. I went to college dumbo. Just worked hard. Only went out Friday and Saturday nights.
And yes its worth it. I have a 2800 sq ft house that is 1/2 paid off, only other bill is student loans and utilities. I'm 33. Father of 3.
cope not all IT guys are homosexuals like you
Started out on helpdesk and worked my way up. I'm a server admin. Backups, Monitoring, SAN & VMWare & Windows Server administration. Its pretty routine once you understand it.
Hardest part of my job is honestly having patience with Pajeets. I can't describe how much I hate pajeets. Their scripts and code are held together with curry and hope. They all live in the same apartment and work contract, save every penny and send it back to their family in Bengal Pradesh or wherever the fuck they're from. They then leave after 10 years as their visa/green card expires and they go live in their village like a king. They smell bad, they backstab you. They use a caste system, and they're awkward with the women. I can't understand most of their accents. Not one of their women are attractive. If it weren't for indians I would probably be even more successful but I have to 'do the needful' and play their gay fucking games
>study computer science
>end up managing windows server
I am glad that you made it but I would kill myself if this is my fate. I didn't take calculus 3, numerical analysis, operating systems, machine learning, cryptography and all the other difficult classes to end up like this. Sometimes I feel like university is just a big useless meatgrinder that you have to survive only to end up working in a job you could have trained 6 months bootcamp for.
>Sometimes I feel like university is just a big useless meatgrinder that you have to survive only to end up working in a job you could have trained 6 months bootcamp for
LOL. This is exactly what the real world is so get ready buddy. Wait until I tell you the IT Security people are the biggest retards out there and don't actually make anything secure, just send tickets to people like me based on their 'analysis' lmao
You are supposed to learn things in a university, it is not supposed to be a job training program. Of course there used to be a culture where companies would hire learned people and invest in them. But now it is about getting codeshitter who knows X specific thing for minimum price.
I fucking hate Pajeets so much it is unreal. Every day in my stand up I can't understand wtf they are saying. I have to ask them to repeat themselves every time they ask me something. They're completely unsociable, I believe they have no soul. I have never been attracted to an indian woman, ever. I can confirm, they are very bad around women and they all smell bad. Every indian dude from India that I've met has smelled bad without exception.
>they are very bad around women
Can't get them fired for HR stuff? Or will just two more take their place?
Yeah. The problem with Pajeets is that there are nearly infinite Pajeets. Tbh though I have seen any indians be weird around women at work mainly because there are so few women at work. I did see them act very autistically around women in college.
> missing out
> the fun university experience
Grow the fuck up and stop idealizing what it is to go to school. I hear this garbage from young people and it's as if they believe in some sort of second puberty or great period of enlightenment. Instead of expecting the world to reward you for merely existing why not work hard towards something?
> Is the money really worth it?
Of course it is. You will have so much free time and money if you concentrate on your goals. Your peers will be the ones missing out.
> tons of pussy, parties, events, sports
None of this is exclusive to university, pull your head out of your ass
"Being cool" in HS and College is being popular and the big man on campus and getting girls, etc.
"Being cool" in your 30s is having your debt paid off, having a hot wife, having well behaved kids, and bbqing meats while enjoying life while drinking white monsteers (literally me)
>hot wife
You mean the girl who got ran through by hundreds of men during college, just partied and fucked fucked fucked while you worked your ass off to support her later once she decided to settle down?
Picrelated the fate of almost every STEM student.
I doubt that
My wife didn't go to college. She was home schooled, and stayed at home and lived with her parents. I wasn't even allowed to ask her out. I did (we met at church) but then she said I have to ask her dad to have a 'courtship' as she wasn't allowed to date and it needed to be supervised. I thought that was pretty weird despite her being 19, but I respected her and her families wishes. I would be very shocked if she was riding dick while that was happening. My father in law was a former marine and doesn't play games. He complimented me that I got out of my car and rang the doorbell and shook his hand like a man and met him before taking her out. He also complimented that I walked her to the door, where he was waiting with his shotgun after our first date. I know for a fact I took her virginity, since there was blood all over my penis from her hymen. I have since been impregnating her ever since. Luckily, she has gotten more promiscious as time has went on. Although I told her that was my biggest reservation before we got married, that she was inexperienced and prude, and she promised to explore more. Just recently, she let me tit fuck her for the first time, and then sent me a video of her playing with herself with a 'rose vibrator' this week. Being married is very fun, and the kids are a joy.
You shouldn't just assume every women are like the whores you have apparently dated anon.
Wow, you found the ultra-rare golden diamond-encrusted unicorn and your experience means that women aren't whores by default? You yourself state that it took a shotgun-wielding hardass marine to keep your wife from going for the first guy to come along. Church girls are some of the most whorish sluts out there. I'd know, I have been going to church all my life. When i was 15, i joined the Catholic Youth group. The guys and girls there weren't there for studying the Bible, they were there to go get wasted at the club afterwards and then have intoxicated sex. No sunshine and rainbows, trips to help impoverished people, none of that. It was just a preamble to pure gluttonous, hedonistic revelry. It was disgusting. Other than that, i have never met someone my age in church, only old ladies. You got extremely lucky. Others don't share your fortune.
This is written like an INCEL larp fantasy... serious have a nice day
Because I made it up. Truth is my wife's roster was around 10 and she participated in a white t shirt contest and mine was around 6 but one was an asian massage lady so technically a hooker and I had another girl eat my ass but didn't fuck her
yeah beeing a socially awkward nerd is how you get women and a good life and hang out with cool people who arent socialy awkward nerds
You can have a decent college life even when studying hard stuff if you get a good routine and know when you can slack off and when you can't.
Us STEMcels don't have those experiences because we are autistic. I go to parties frequently, but I'm to shizoid to pull chicks and most of the social events I go to are through people in my classes which are always full of guys and similarly autistic chicks.
Also lads what is up with women's disdain for CS? I'd always thought they at least be impressed because it's hard and it will pay well. And then when you're SwoleShack and decent looking on top of that it wouldn't have any downsides?
But my experience is always the same:
>oh hey what do you study
>CS with focus on ML and stuff
>oohhhh, really? I would have never guessed that!
>can see any attraction in her vaporize
>Also lads what is up with women's disdain for CS?
LMAO this is exactly my experience. I work part time at a grocery store and when I tell girls I am just a grocery store worker I get better reactions to saying I study CS.
I really love CS but your dating life is seriously fried by choosing it.
Just be like me. When I met my wife she was like "damn I didn't think there were hot IT guys, I thought you guys were all nerds" and I was like yeah no most of us are pretty normal dudes. There are some fags who love marvel and video games, and I have watched star trek, but other than that I'm not too bad. Still haven't gotten her to watch Star Trek, but she loves watching me do pull ups on the door pull up bar every time I walk out of the bedroom. She took a video and showed it to her friends because my back looks so fuckin jacked
They don’t know what to ask you about without sounding stupid. When a girl says she’s in something like hospitality and tourism management or kinesiology, do you know what to ask them? You probably have the same effect
Most of my highschool classmates are in their early 30's and have 30 year mortgages on their apartments.
I buy an apartment and rent it every year.
By 50 I'll have enough apartments to retire and get more passive income that I know what to do with.
It's not just the money, man. Most STEM jobs are incredibly comfy, low intensity and low stress, especially for computer scientists.
Work from home, do an hour of actual work, attend some bullshit meetings and do whatever the fuck you want with your free time. It's well worth it man, keep pushing on.
>Work from home, do an hour of actual work
I don't know if I'll actually like this
I like being in university because I get to socialize and be around people my age and meet girls
Working from home for the rest of my life seems like a bleak, depressing future
You're not forced to do it (yet lmao). I work from the office/labs 2 times a week. I'm on very good terms with my colleagues and go out with them regularly. Sometimes we even wfh from eachother's places and play boardgames and stuff.
Keep in mind, I'm not a computer scientist. I'm a chemical engineer working at a car electronics company.
The "university experience" is mostly where people fuck around and ruin their youthful bodies by binge drinking and trying different drugs.
>people fuck around
Yeah, that's the thing. You will be forced to marry a girl who is very experienced with a big bodycount while you are completely inexperienced. It's just sad.
I've been binge drinking and doing drugs nearly every weekend for close to 10 years and I'm perfectly healthy and look great. You just need to live healthy apart from that and don't be a retard about your consumption and you're good
>I've been binge drinking for 10 years and I'm perfectly healthy
post liver enzymes copemaxxer
Why are you going to waste time doing the Masters? If you just want good money as a software engineer, all you need is the Bachelors. Masters is for academic homosexuals, go make some money instead
I am in europoor and Masters gets you a higher paying job than just a bachelors and it's easier to move up positions because muh credentialism.
nagger, fuck college parties. I would trade all that shit in a heartbeat for a 6-figure salary.
As somebody who partied hard their first two years of college and just fully embraced the degenerate lifestyle and had a lot of fun and was going to parties 3-4 times a week, the studying is a better idea. You should somehow make time for a social life where you interact with new people or atleast a bigger group of people, but don't make the mistake of thinking about the ultra secret "cool parties" going on at your campus. It's not as cool as you think if you were to experience it. It may feel that way at first but after awhile you just realize it's just a gathering of degenerates and their vices coming together to try to feel some happiness. It's not as happy and cool as it sounds when you never do it. Just a bunch of drunk people trying to get laid or get drunker or do drugs or start fights or whatever it may be.
It's not worth losing any sleep over I promise. I wish I tried harder my first go round of college
It's more abour having missed out on some experiences. Imagine getting your first girlfriend at 28 and she tells you all the degenerate sex stuff she did in college.
Im just letting you know you didn't miss out on much and God says to wait til marriage for a reason. The fast life party hookup lifestyle isn't nearly as epic as it seems when you haven't experienced it
No, it's okay that I missed out on it. Still, I don't know if I would be comfortable with a girlfriend who did all the crazy party phase and fucking tons of guys but now is ready to settle down, which is basically every girl nowadays.
Autistic hobbyist shut-in girls do exist. Some of them are really cute. Do not believe what NEETs on SwoleShack tell you.
You'll meet one eventually if you study/work in STEM.
I've dated one and been friends with several. All of them are severely mentally ill. Remember - if someone is a shut in with no friends, there's probably a reason.
>severely mentally ill
what do you mean by this
Autistic people are awful to deal with. It's like they stopped mentally maturing at age 12. These "autistic hobbyist shut-in" girls are also likely to suffer from BPD, have a histrionic personality, or be a depressed addict with no motivation.
Despite what the israelite media shows you that isn't true. Most people don't engage in hookups.
>which is basically every girl nowadays.
People party and fuck less than ever nowadays.
cut something
how much of it is actually studying?
can you get away with somewhat worse grades?
if not, take year off to fix your shit. you really can never get back all the opportunities in college
>Is the money really worth it missing out on the college life?
no. youll end up as one of those neckbeards who drops 10k$ per months on egirls for a shred of affection. or thinks beeing literally 50 with no future is ok because you dont have to work to pay your bills (except you have no life and are too late get one at 50)
like these losers
social skills are not exclusive with a good life outcome. actually its the opposite.
if you cant connect with normies, ok, go to nerd society and make friends there. if you cant do that either you are in big trouble and need to fix your shit.
bonus image:
There is more to life than money
You should have goals and dreams in life
Otherwise you don't know what you are doing or why
We are just helping the dark evil aliens from hell. We are feeding our evil masters.
Choose your fate anon. Will you free youself of the shackles of your dark overlords and follow ashtar sheran ?
Meds
Immediately.
What course? I honestly found CS quite easy. But I'm in Sweden, perhaps we had it more soft.
>missing out on the college life
You can easily do that even if you think the courses are quite easy. Just look at me.
Parties and trim will not save you. Only through finishing your degree and becoming good at something will you respect yourself and only through valuing your sacrifice will you value your life
I have my degree, would probably have respected myself more of I had kissed a girl now in my late 20's.
Then find a woman and kiss her
There are no women after college and especially if you are in tech. They just disappear, unironcally I haven't spoken to a woman in her 20s in almost 5 years now.
wrong, social skills are super value
There is nothing stopping you from having your suummer vacation, homosexual.
Nah you gotta grind leetcode and work at your unpaid internship :^)
>falling for the cs meme
shiggy
Im doing computer science aswell. Im still a freshman but i have a friend that does engineering. From what he said this is pretty much how it is for a stem degree. But keep going anon, its rough but you can do it. Hopefully i can aswell
>where even is the payoff for this madness?
You're literally me but younger. I'm at work now making 120k and in an hour I'll be at the gym. You never work anywhere close to 8h a day in an IT job.
Not true, most low level IT workers work 9hr days.
Guess I'm high level then. Going to the gym now, peace.
I started in computer science at a small private school and by computer science 3 I had no idea WTF was going on. We were writing operating systems out of Java. On top of that, the small school = smaller classes = more irrelvant homework and bullshit when I just want to learn CS. Not calculus and all of that nonsense that comes with a degree in the school of engineering. I was on a scholarship to play basketball and it was their only computer-ish degree.
I noped out of there and transfered to a giant public university which had Computer Science and Information Systems. Switched to information systems (WAY WAY EASIER) in the school of business and went into infrastructure (although there was a software development 'focus' you could have done). My salary hit 100k at 30, 150k at 34. Maybe not as high as developers but still way higher than my peers.
The salary gainz come from having the balls to switch jobs often (AND get some certifications and a masters if you can or graduate certificate). Contract jobs make this much easier without the stigma of "he quits jobs every ~year". By 30 I had worked at 6 places.
The fuck does this have to do with fitness whatsoever, you nagger?
Wrong board
Not sure about CS but I was in your shoes studying to be a dentalfag and I'm buying out an apartment per year and living debt free.
If it's going to bring in money, it's worth the hassle.
Nah you are just working hard bro, education pays off if you work hard. School is hard work.
No one just hands you a job though, unless through nepotism.
If you want a job out of school would look at internships or networking, professional groups, stuff like that.
FITNESS
>UHH NOT ON TOPIC
The word 'gym' appears in the OP. It is on topic. Cope.
>whining about choice of science major on a fitness board
Sincerely have a nice day.
Are you stupid? Just copy your code retard. Or pay someone to do your homework.
I swear to fuck you engineers are really the worst at being retarded. I hope you're a pajeet and not white.
Yup. Proper CS, not shitty american college coding classes, is extremely difficult and on par with math, engineering, physics etc. But on top of usual difficult exams you get in STEM you have insane workload of projects and shit. Why the fuck do you think a data science or ML engineer earns so much? You think that's just because they got lucky in choosing their major?
Just think of the future anon. Your life doesn't end at 30. Imagine what you can do in life with a job that pays 100-200k/year. The freedom of choosing your workplace. Or going part time and earning a completely acceptable comfortable living wage for 20-30 hours a week.
And if you do it right you still have a life outside of that.
CS isn't coding you braindead homosexual. I had like 2 classes related to programming in my entire bachelors. I learning python in my 3rd semester because I needed it in my applied numerics class. They didn't give us any introduction or help. The professor just said "these exercises need to be completed in python, no other language will be accepted", linked the python documentation and that's it. If you don't get at least 70% of the points on 12 total exercise sheets you won't even be admitted to the exam. An exam that has a 30% passing rate.
I love CS, I look forward to out earning literally everyone I know but god is it frustrating to have people think you plug in keyboards and install windows while all you do is read math textbooks and do complicated theory all day. And then they get impressed by some dimwit studying law or medicine lmao
I majored in CS you retard. I paid someone to take all my exams. Fuckign pajeet retards.
What kind of shithole did you graduate that you could pay people to take your exam lol? They do ID checks in every exam for every student in every first world country university.
You realize your bachelor of corruption degree from east-hanoi "university" isn't a real degree right?
I love people that know nothing about computer science opening their mouths. Yeah. Being a network administrator is totally similar to being a java developer
Well to be fair that's what most people going into comp sci think it is
I went to Penn State. It was pretty easy to do during COVID tbqh. Before that all my CS exams were take-home. Profs all said, "You can't fake your way through this exam, so don't try!" It was so easy I can't help but laugh. Meanwhile all the pajeets and homosexuals were stressing out. I hired one of my classmates last week and ran into one doing an RFP for an off-the-shelf solution. They're all so fucking stressed out. Meanwhile I work like 5 hours a week and make 5 times what they do. Pajeets and betas will never learn tho.
Steve?
Nope, but my name is pretty common
>What kind of shithole did you graduate that you could pay people to take your exam lol?
I always wondered this. I graduated well before COVID so it might be a different story now, but this meme has been around forever. In my school, my professors knew my face. They knew each and every student, at least in the 300-400 level classes (and often the 200 level). Zero chance I could get someone to take an exam for me because the professor or proctor (usually the TA) would take one look and be like, "Who the fuck are you? What name did you just write/type, motherfucker?" No ID check needed.
If you skate by your BS and your professors have no idea who you are... either you went to a real shit school or you are the lowest tier student, probably both.
>Hi anon, welcome to the job interview. No need to be nervous. Let's start with some easy questions to warmup. Could you please explain what an eigenvector is?
I th-think I need to make a phone call..
kek, you actually got asked shit like that in a job interview? Worst I ever been asked was my first job when they asked to look at my code? I gave them some copypasted code and haven't really been asked about anything other than my results and management style since.
No one has ever been asked that in a job interview lol
Thats onebof the main takeaways of linear algebra. No doubt a course you were expected to take. Its an easy question. Its like getting asked to compute an elementary derivative.
The only companies that would ask a question as retarded as that are the ones you shouldn't bother working for (pretentious ass startups). Most would just ask you some technical questions regarding your studies/previous job experiences, and to do some basic live coding demos.
He said reputable university homosexual.
I like how you're bragging about your "potential salary" lol, if you're a europoor going to a europoor university you're going to be make 30k when you graduate.
Yeah average salary in central europe is kinda meh in CS. But guess what? I can work anywhere. Also I seem to have hit the nail on the head kek
Everything in europe is 'meh'. You have high taxes, cannot afford to purchase a home you don't inherit, you have no guns, no wilderness, no ice and shit because of mega utility bills, the food is bland, and the bravest and strongest of your ancestors came to north america a century ago. Europe is basically a cuckhold of a continent at this point.
>it's a "3rd worlder believes everything he reads on /misc/" episode
I am white, live in a nicer house than you, and have been to Europe. The most impressive thing they did was the city planning. City Squares and shit. A lot more 'soul' than America. However they are super submissive people. I threatened to kick people's asses everywhere I went and they just apologized
>3rd worlder brags about being "white" yet somehow tries to pretend his shithole is superior
>3rd worlder visits europe and starts harassing elderly people
many such cases
Ok big guy, we get it you're really tough
nonwhite post
>I threatened to kick people's asses everywhere I went and they just apologized
Translation: "I behaved like an uncouth nagger."
You're the reason why most Europeans are racist behind closed doors.
>But guess what? I can work anywhere.
You will be among the hordes of central europoors and pajeets begging for jobs in the US on indeed and not getting one.
>I seem to have hit the nail on the head kek
I graduated college last year and already got my six figure murrican WFH job. Keep bragging about making 200k retard, you never will.
You do understand what cost of living is, right?
You're 100k dollar salary is like a 60k euro salary unless you live in fucking san francisco
ah yes, here comes the traditional europoor backpedaling and cope
I am a new college grad and I make $120k/yr WFMing out of my flyover state with my “shitty US cs degree”
I’m only 22 and I’m still pocketing half a year’s salary after 401k, rent, car payments, etc. I drive a new car, buy whatever clothes I want, and can take trips wherever I want without a second thought
Outside of living in fucking Romania the COL isn’t much more. Lmao
That other Euro is just coping. You will of course earn much more in the US, and pay way less to taxes.
Here in Sweden it's perhaps realistic to look at a 60k salary after like 10 years. Can probably make this faster with job hopping and such. Entry level with a Master's degree is like 3.5-4k/month.
Of this like 30-40% will be tax.
On the new earnings, that surpasses like 4-4.5k/month or so you will pay 50% tax. I will try to trade it for kept salary but shorter work hours when that time comes.
This shit may be worth it if you actually are a people, a folk, at least for me as a nationalist. But now with all the immigrants which will leech from this along with running the country, then fuck no. Honestly believe we may become more like the US in the future. This was also, funnily enough, an old plan of our old, economic right, prime minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt. He was the one who really opened the doors to immigration, published a book long ago about "waking the sleeping people".
CS grad here the degree is brain dead easy if your struggling your not going to make it. The hardest classes are upper Math. Coding is just pattern recognition and series/sequences. I spent maybe 2-3hrs a week outside classes doing work. I make 120k and work maybe 2 hours a day salary.
>CS
>engineer
Are you a lib arts major?
Yes. That sounds like me in college. 10 years later I make 150,000$/yr. Full benefits. Wfh. They match 401K. Actually work about 8 hours a week. Wiggle the mouse and workout or play video games or do chores the other hours of the week. Still can’t login to Linux. Only time I have to go in is to pull or rack a server.
Dude what jobs are you guys working. I’ve never met anyone irl who is able to get away with this. Where and what do you guys do.
After 6 years I made it as a Sr. Dev for a fortune 500 israelitecrew, I don't work the full 8 hours like the 150k goodgoy (I'm a bad goy), but that's OK because I value my time. Just learn to code, be White, not autistic and not a soiboi. They want to hire Chads knowing they can one day lead the Soiboys. IT is the best job because you WFH and don't work. This is me right now not working.
I’m a jr dev out of college, wfh. They do gay shit like tell how much afk time you have or key presses per hour metrics and stuff. Did I just get unlucky with company,do I find a different one when the economy recovers?
If they make you do gay little shit like that and you can't just tell them to fuck off, or just not do it, and it fucking GETS to you after a few months - then yeah I would leave. As a rule of thumb, not sure where I learned this, but a dev should change their job every 3 years and increase in salary. I went from 40 -> 80 -> 120 and now am even talking to someone looking for a CTO. You learn more from changing jobs than you would from learning shit online too.
Leave that place as soon as you can. It isn't normal for any company to treat its engineers like children.
It is in CS. I have to tell some of my managers to bathe befoer they come in the one day a week they're scheduled. Of course, most are chinks or pajeets so they tend to stink anyway
as long as you are not retarded you only really do like 4-5 hours of work a day as a software engineer at fortune 500 company.
Working more hours does not make you accomplish more if your job is problem-solving. Yea you will have those few weeks that are 70 hours if it's really crunch time or shit hits the fan but in reality if you are smart and actually qualified for your job you will have a LOT of free time.
Not them but
>work in aerospace defense manufacturing
>WFH business systems automation analyst (no coding required but do sql and vba to pull from data warehouse)
>diagram out data flow from collection, storage, pulling, reporting
>do that myself or contract out to specialized developers when needed
>make $120,000 total comp
>realistically “work” 15-20 hours per week which is 80% phone calls to know what people are asking for
I got into the job by being an entry level manufacturing engineer, got sick of doing reports so I learned how to do automated excel dashboards from YouTube and the people on my current team were impressed. It also helped that the job could only go to US citizens since it’s defense industry
this is the fucking ape shitposting against using linux on SwoleShack
ChatGPT, please write me fizz buzz in C#. Thank you.
You must have accidentally gone to a good uni
I got first class honours in CS doing fuck all, genuinely
Got a master's degree with distinction in data science a year later
It takes real intelligence to get away with being stupid and lazy, trust me
Nah but keep at it man
I feel you, man. I am third year of pure mathematics and it is time consuming as hell. When i see all the marketing majors or humanities (kek) people who have half the workload i do yet still accomplish nothing, i feel like bursting a blood vessel. Very hard to balance doing set theory for hours and fitting in the gym, cleaning and cooking every day. Hope it gets better, this shit is draining as fuck. I love mats, though, so i picked my own poison, i guess.
The humanities kek and marketing majors will still be able to get decent jobs and live a normal middle-class life. They will have had more girls, have a big family, more friends, fun hobbies etc. Every STEM guy is in the grind and will stay there. STEM will be your life for the rest of it.
I was always very talented in humanities subjects, i competed and won philosophy, linguistics, translation competitions on an international level, but i never liked that stuff, mostly because the people that studied humanities were always annoying whiny pseuds who thought that reading excerpts from milton's opus made them gods among men. Maths are cozy, maths are filled with autists, and there are next to no women here, especially in higher years when they all flunk linear algebra 1 (lol). Here people actually like the shit they are studying, there is no disgusting hormone-induced posturing, degeneracy, clique bullshit... You just walk up to a fellow sperg and start talking about computability theory or some crap. Why would you spend years of your life mastering something you didn't enjoy doing? You talk like going to college is an obligation, and not a way to learn more about things you love.
>Why would you spend years of your life mastering something you didn't enjoy doing?
I'm
The answer to your question is copious amounts of money. Work to live don't live to work.
You must be young. Only people in their 20s are still naive enough to still have hope and think "if you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life". No. Fuck that. Work is bullshit. Its fucking gay. It sucks. I would literally rather be doing anything else besides working, and if I did something I loved like fishing, I would grow to hate fishing because fishing would be work. Truth is I want to eat donuts and get my dick sucked by a big boobed and watch movies all day while somehow maintaining a 6 pack and having someone wipe my ass for me. But it isn't fucking reality.
If you'd done philosophy at a good english-speaking school you hardly have to deal with *those* sorts, it's all truth-tables.
Hey OP, you need to cut away extraneous time wasting from your life. Own less shit so you have less to clean and care for. Automate your cooking by using an easy to clean crockpot or instapot to make simple dishes that are easy to portion off for lunches or whatever. Possibly invest into a home gym so you eliminate travel time and you can study while you lift. Maybe find a job that's closer to you.
Try to find things to cut away, it adds up.
if you can splurge, i recommend roombas
>studying, gym, cooking, sleeping and working
That all sounds like a very good way to spend your time. What would you rather be doing? Jerking off and watching TV or some shit?
>read more books and join a bookclub
>join a martial arts group
>parties and clubs
>try to meet girls, get laid, maybe even a girlfriend
>pick up a new hobby like drawing or origami
I feel like STEM is a lifetime commitment and you just autistically stay in this vicinity without doing much else.
>awing or origami
>I feel like STEM is a lifetime commitment and you just autistically stay in this vicinity without doing much else.
it sure felt that way in math. everyone was autistic and no women in sight
>read more books and join a bookclub
Gay.
>join a martial arts group
You said you already go to the gym. Why don't you find a gym with an MMA group that you can start going to if that's what you want to do?
>parties and clubs
Shallow normalfag bullshit
>try to meet girls, get laid, maybe even a girlfriend
You really don't have time for like a weekend date once a month?
>pick up a new hobby like drawing or origami
Also gay
im in dental school. last semester i had over 40 credits.
fuck your pussy ass undergrad bs you have plenty of time
>he legit thinks medschool is hard
>SwoleShack-Fitness
>working part-time 10h
10 hours a week is literally nothing, get good.
My gf graduated with a degree in gamedev and works at a company now doing software dev. She can barely understand complex math. Should I be worried she's going to lose her job?
They have computers for doing complex math. They even fit in your pocket.
>works at a company now doing software dev
Well if she got the job and are working. Then probably no need to worry.
What maths are you talking about. The need for math in regular programming is honestly not much. If anything game dev feels like one where it would be more important.
In most dev jobs you don't use complex maths anon
>cooking
Do you stupid naggers cook every fucking day?
Cook once a week and freeze half of it.
Depends how much leftovers i have.
>Still falling for the STEM meme in 2022
The government thanks you for pursuing this career path that they will subsequently rape with taxes.
CompSci is nothing compared to computer/electrical/software engineering. You have shitty time management or are doing way more than you need to.
Is there anyone on SwoleShack who doesn't do computer science or is it just the cs homosexuals who are unable refrain from mentioning that they have a cs degree?
Doing electrical engineering
But in Europe, so it's totally different world than in the US
>do one of the hardest degrees in europe
>have almost no life and grind it to graduation
>26K a year after taxes
>can afford absolutely nothing
Being europoor is hell on earth.
That pretty much
Except I don't have to put in like hours and hours of work every day.
Pay is rather shit tho indeed. Around 20k-22k eur a year here. So I'd need around 2-3 year pay saved up for a normal down payment.
CS or any of its variations is just the male dork equivalent of business (for chads) or nursing (for women). it's just the thing you study when you're a cookie cutter with no passion in life who just wants to get a socially approved job and make some money.
Look at this 23 yr old homosexual, thinks he’s so “passionate” lmao
no javascript framework just dropped, get to it lil pajeet buddy.
*new
I’m white. And 6’3” fyi you just sound dumb and gay lol but it’s all good I was similar in my early 20s looking for a job I’m “passionate” about. Eventually you’ll grow up, or maybe you’ll remain gay and retarded who knows
Oops that was for you,
lol fucking true. I can't believe how oversaturated this shit has become...
And that's a perfectly valid reason. If you're not born into wealth or have a natural talent for a particular occupation, you can bet your ass I'm heading straight for the occupation that maximizes earnings.
The special snowflakes with a passion for graphic design can continue to starve, cope, and get replaced by a literal computer while I rake in the dough working (effectively) 30 hours a week from my bedroom office.
I'm in math but don't do anything and actually just sit in front of the computer
University is a scam. Learn a trade.
trades are also a scam in bongland. need to make a trades business to stack cash
10h a day? tzzzz
I worked 65h last week.
>the workload is insane
That depends. What year are you? If it's 1st or 2nd, it's actually quite normal. Some STEM degrees will make 1st year a kind of marketing phase and then 2nd year the weeding out phase, while others skip the marketing phase and start from weeding out.
It gets easier by 3rd and even easier at 4th. If you can afford it, it's often a good idea to stretch out those first years (whichever one is the weeding out year) and complete your degree a year late.
you're gonna be a webdev buddy? yeah you're gonna be a good little pajeet and become a FAGMAN coder. yeah that's awesome pajeet buddy. just study hard, become a javascript rockstar go get that elite FAGMAN coder job pajeet buddy.
MechE, pretty similar sitch here. I also have adhd that I don’t take medication for so I end up dedicating the vast majority of my waking hours to studying and homework. I might just be projecting, but I think the key is literally to just realize that you don’t have to care about the things you mentioned. Pretty much the only reason I used to care about that stuff was because I thought everyone else cared about it.
Ues, it is supposed to condition you to be a productive little worker bee.
>graduated with an industrial engineering degree
>worked my ass off
>le covid meme prevented me from getting an internship
>can't get the stem jobs because "we want le more experience XdDDD"
What the fuck is this bullshit?
It's all rigged. Look for loopholes in the system. Travel to another city to work if need be.
I’m in the same boat as you man. I graduated with a civil engineering degree with high distinction. Still applying to jobs and still getting rejected because “I don’t have the necessary experience”, also due to COVID.
lmao same only I got rejected so much i've been a neet for 5 years. I made some good money from crypto that allowed that, but now im running dry and I have a 5 year gap. It's fucking over lmao
Here it's literally mandatory to do internship in some engineering company or you cannot pass your year. 4 years of study, total 3 internships or a job in an engineering field or you cannot get your degree in the end.
Yeah it is mandatory for me as well. The issue is that the period of time that I had to do an internship (summer semester) was during peak COVID, and so this requirement was set aside.
I did an internship after I graduated but it wasn’t that good.
>industrial engineer
>no internships
>can't get a job
You went to a shit school and/or were too proud to pursue open internships with non-prestigious companies in the manufacturing or resource processing sectors.
>t. industrial engineer who spun a COVID internship into a $97k/yr offer with a mid company
I could have pursued open internships, but they were fucking unavailable because I was in a cucked state.
There were plentiful internships during COVID that would either straight up put you in a hotel or provide you with a stipend for room and board and help you apartment hunt. NINE of my friends did this. Coincidentally, I had nine friends who were looking for out of state internships. They didn't all get their first choice in company, but they all got internships, and they all got decent return offers once they were done. Unless your state literally closed its borders (protip: no it didn't), you had options you failed to capitalize on.
Graduated with a B.S. in physics last month. The answer is yes, but it's not as grim as you think.
You can still do everything you wanna do, but you have to realize that there will be sacrifices along the way, but never long term ones. You can absolutely afford to go out to parties, study hard, and work out; all that matters is finding out what you personally want to prioritize while remaining comfortable with yourself and your accomplishments. It may seen daunting now, but stick with it and find a rhythm. It's worth it bro, I promise.
CS is not stem you brown Indian
>you had to cram a thousand algorithms instead of a thousand differential equations per exam??
>you are not le real science!!1
Bros, how do you accept that party, hook-ups, alcohol, clubs, going out a lot just isn't for you? I don't like it but still do it because I feel like if I don't I will miss out and then regret it at 30+.
I have never had a girlfriend and I feel like if I just focused on my studies and gym, which is what I actually want, I will die alone, so I pressure myself to go partying a lot even if it makes me unhappy.
You just accept it, and do what I did, and start lifting and working out all the fucking free time you have. Become super fucking jacked, and start hunting and fishing. Become super fucking manly, and then women will flock to you based on your good looks alone. Its so easy. Thats what I did, got jacked and rich and my buddies joked that on the rare occasion they did go out with me it wasn't even fun because women were walking up to me all night and they felt like they needed to hand out tickets
That sounds fun and all but my face is kind of ugly and I am only 5'8". Also, already got a decent physique although I am definitely far from my limit.
How tall and attractive are you?
I am 5'7 but height doesn't really matter that is just a meme that the terminally online retards here who do dumb shit like no-fap and garlic only diets say. All that matters is money, confidence, and good looks. It doesn't matter how ugly your face is when you have a 6 pack and game
>rich
I won't be "rich" until I hit 30. Who wants some 30 years old guy? I should already be married at that age. Time really is brutal.
>mfw 30+ and only halfway done my 4 film year degree
I feel like my experience is very different then your typically US College/Canadian University exp. I see videos that have like 100-200 student class lectures and that fucking blows my mind. I've never been in a class with more then 30 people and most of my classes are practical on hands shit.
soft eng SwoleShack chad.
stick with it anon, its your best bet at getting a job after college. the market is tough, but you'll be better off with cs than any other meme degree. make sure to fight for an internship. keep working it'll teach you how important it is to escape retail hell (if that's what you are doing for 10hrs a day). secondly try to be social in college anon. this is why you feel the way you do. there's no fun time. make it. there should be plenty of clubs and shit so find something, it'll make this more bearable and who knows you might find yourself an asian qt3.14 (i don't give a shit about asian chicks, but you white bois get such a hard on for them, i don't really get it).
soft eng SwoleShack chad here *
extremely cringe post. never post again and have a nice day.
this is all true, if you are paying $$$ for college in 2022 and do not take advantage of social opportunities that are thrown at you, you have wasted money. its 10000% easier to learn how to socialize in college than it is after college
>"anon you're here to go to school not become a SEAL. You're not an athlete. Stop going to the gym 4+ hours a day"
Haven't wanted to beat my old man to death in years....
Idk maybe if you're retarded. I did computer science and I had lots of free time. I might hang out with my buddies for a couple hours to work on an assignment but we smashed that shit so easily. Spent most of my time sleeping, eating, gaming, lifting. Those were the days.
There are 24 hours a day (16 accounting for 8 hours of sleep)
If you find that you're not accomplishing enough per day, I find setting strict limits on how much time you spend on a task per day helps a lot - forces you to become more efficient with studying, and working on projects.
Remember, the goal shouldn't be 'I need to put this much time into a task' it should be 'given this amount of time, I need to accomplish this task'.
As for partying, university academics is daunting, but if you're putting in 6 hours a day to studying/working you certainly can take a day or 2 off to get shitfaced.
It's strange to ask for a 'pay off' as the obvious one is monetary, but even that fades pretty quickly if you don't even kind of like the work you're doing. I'd say if you have a goal that necessitates a degree in cs the pay off is you'd be 1 step closer to achieving that goal, and pushing yourself now will set you up with a lifestyle that'll only compound in value as you get older.
No, this is it anon. You're putting in the time now to have an easy life later, just like the gym. You life heavy, eat right, and don't coom so you can make gains. Then, later, you get mires and pussy. It's the same in school. Retarded arts majors do nothing at school, then struggle for money. Don't let anyone fool you anon. Keep your grind up, push harder, and don't let instant gratification detract from the long term goals.
t. physics PhD
What's the point achieving stuff for later? Life ends at 30 if you didn't manage to get married at that age and most STEMcels don't even have a gf at that age.
>just grind until you're an old man bro
bad advice
I'm assuming this is stemming from the feeling that you're not getting laid, and you're experiencing fomo so here's something to consider.
Most of the girls in college who are willing to fuck just because you happen to be in the same sweaty room, are not people you should want in your life. At least when I went to college, sorority girls are as dumb as a brick, act like children, and are usually bums who are barely more hygienic than their male counterparts.
It's cheesy to say, but sex is way better with someone you actually want to be intimate with, otherwise masturbating is is just as effective in quelling your hormones.
>be me
>majored in finance
>spent most of college drunk and partying it up
>graduated with a low 3 GPA
>get an alright job postgrad and be an idiot until 25
>decide to go to law school after tripping acid and watching fritz the cat
>do well on the LSAT and go to the best law school i can (a T30 b/c of my shitty GPA)
>do well in school and have a lot of free time
>got a biglaw job which ill start early fall
wouldnt have had it any other way
I did cs and math at a top school, undergrad was really tough and didn't really have time to lift. But i got fit after graduating, and now at my first job get paid well (100k) and barely do any work, while wfh. Infact, have literally done no work in all of dec and beginning of January.
I've been here for 6 months, but thinking about starting interview prep again so at my 1 year mark i can switch to another place for more money. Reckon can get 120-200.
I'm guessing you're a freshman or sophomore. Eventually you'll realize the rule of 1,10,100:70,90,100. With 1% effort you can get 70% results; C's get degrees. There's no reason to push yourself to the max studying when you can put the minimum effort in, get a passing grade, and spend the rest of your time enjoying yourself. College is for networking and sports. You will never be in better shape in your life, and you will never live in as dense a population of people with whom you have a lot in common. Take advantage of it and don't waste your time doing something you can do after college.
This is what I did and would NOT reccomend. You need a decent GPA if you dont want to get into a good grad program and make the big money. Now im stuck waging to get relevant "experience" just to have a chance at the masters I want to do because I had a sub 3.0 and I have this crushing feeling that im probably fucked and not gonna get accepted anywhere bc Im gonna be filtered by GPA no matter what.
Imagine paying 100+k euros for "" American"" education. So that trannies and naggers can tell you how racist you are roflmao. Americans are literally mutilated (cut) goyslaves npcs
most places have GPA cutoffs of 3, 3.2, and 3.5. some even hire. if you are below that, your resume doesnt get looked at unless you are a networking god, which most of SwoleShack is not.
Do companies actually see the GPA of a person in the US?
most companies require your GPA on your resume/CV. if your GPA is not on your resume, then it is assumed to be shit, at least if you are a young professional without much experience.
if you apply for a job via a job portal, you will be required to enter you GPA. companies may also require your transcript to ensure that you are not misrepresenting anything.
That's pretty interesting to hear.
We don't really have this GPA thing here and companies couldn't care less about your grades. To be honest I think it's even illegal to ask that here.
No. I lied on mine. Only one company asked. So I photocopied my resume and used white out. They never followed up with the university since I ended up working there lol.
No. It's completely irrelevant.
I did comp sci ~3.7 GPA without trying. When you're at that level of intelligence, natural intelligence, you won't be using your degree for what it's intended for. I'm running my own startup in the financial space.
i agree. im just saying that "c's get degrees" is bad advice if you ever want to use your degree.
The people who get Bs and Cs are the ones who need the degrees to get a job.
Good luck homosexual
Checked.
Likewise, sir.
Fuck off fag. I study maths and bleed out of my asshole to barely get a passing grade. I'm in some fucked up draconic ancient european university where there are no second chances, you pass the midterms or you flunk the entire class. No help, no repeats of tests, no redos. 85% of freshmen fail something, meaning they can't enter the next year. I barely pass with a D. Maybe 20 people graduate a year. I barely have fucking time to go to the gym 4 times a week for an hour, and you tell me college is about sports and fucking drinking? Fuck off with your easy homosexual american degree. I will not be replying in this thread anymore because i need to go study fucking differential calculus. Fuck you.
Literally just stop being retarded. Differential calc was only a moderately difficult class
>Tries to think of a hard class
>Differential calc
Take your business degree and shove it up your ass.
So full of cope
Have fun being stupid europoor nagger while I enjoy first-world standard of living and six-fig salary
>differential calculus
LMAO we did that in our final year of high school. What kind of low IQ shithole are you from?
There are different levels to the same subjects mate.
ITT larping degenerates... Get a job incels, go outside
If I hear another larp of "hahaha I make 100k a year and I just click candy crush on my iPhone for 2hrs a day hehehaha" you'll die in your sleep
$200k former CS major here, here is the short and sweet
>major in CS
college is pretty hard, but your career will have great work-life balance
>major in business
college is fucking easy, but the first 8-9 years of your career you will be a goddamned slave
both career paths can max out at very high salaries, and both can develop into a very wide diversity of jobs. Entry-level business jobs are literal slavery though. CS jobs are always comfy.
>working part-time 10h
Similar experience
>Got into good uni because grades
>Formed study group with +15 classmates from organic chem to study
>Realized I was literally the only person in the group that had a job
>Everyone else was on parents payroll
I was so confused how many college students could study/party/workout, and then I found out I was the outlier by working +20hrs a week.
>tfw party/workout/job
>didnt study
I flunked out
Yes, it's completely normal. It's the price you pay for a "dream" job, or a potentially high salary. I got an engineering degree and it was hell. It didn't help that I'm not particularly smart and had to put in way more effort than a lot of my classmates.
Lol then where the fuck is my good job? I have an engi degree and none of this 6figure sweet bennies shit you speak of
have you looked on linkedin? literally any company has openings for software engineers, even though we are in a recession. you don't even need a CS degree, just put some development experience on your resume
>software engineer
No i will not be a fucking codemonkey
>major in biology to do pre-med
>good GPA. Easily get A's in so called "weed out classes" while actually enjoying them too
>later decide not to do pre-med, mostly because I'm too autistic to do the networking aspect
>finish degree, but now completely lost feeling stuck in the retail wagie hell
Gym is literally the only thing keeping me alive right now.
What do you do now and for how long? Also finishing up bio B.S.
>it's another undercover humanitycuck and/or bluecollarmonkey demoralization thread
if you're not an absolute brainlet or adhdcel and know how to organize your time you can get very good grades, be in shape, play vidya and have enough free time too
Uh I failed the entrance exam for my uni and now I cant enroll in classes for a CS degree. Any tips?
Almost every I knew including myself had the same experience you described. I was doing homework/studying/classes/eating from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep almost every day. For me it got easier after sophomore year. The payoff is your dream jobs competing to offer you fat sacks of money (+130k$). So stick with it and you will earn an easy life.
College is supposed to be hard. It's hard for everyone. Don't believe the guys that tell you they're having an easy time.
>College is supposed to be hard. It's hard for everyone. Don't believe the guys that tell you they're having an easy time.
>I honestly found CS quite easy.
lol, I timed that well.
What was hard? I'm interested. I wonder if it differs between countries or universities perhaps
Algorithms and system programming are the 2 hard ones. The rest just drown you in work but are easy to get a good grade in.
I failed to mention I'm not actually a cs major. I did a cs minor and a Meche major which was pretty difficult because I was focused on robotics and controls.
Didn't have much problem with those tbh. If they are like the ones I had. First year courses? Second for systems? System was with threading and such?
As for drowning in work, did you have many small assignments and such, homework? We basically had ~3 assignments per course, sometime one and a bigger project instead. Then an exam at the end. No theory homework and such things. No obligatory attendance either. (For most courses)
It was very theory heavy and intense. For example: I took an AI class and for some of the homeworks we derived gradient descent from scratch, doing the math with pencil and paper. For every CS class at my school they give you a small project every two weeks in addition to normal homework. The project was usually somewhat difficult. There are final exams but also midterms.
This was at university of illinois at urbana-champaign
Ah, then it may be the theory that is much more. Also we are usually reading only two courses at the time, for about two months, then two new courses. So you just have one exam at the end of every course. Then with a few bigger assignments/projects for every course, kinda like what you mention, but around three over a course, perhaps a bit bigger then.
And usually no "homework", just recommended excersices and readings, almost never anything that's obligatory of those, it's just so you should learn for the exam.
I think in generally we have a bit more free uni education, that you have to take responsibility for studying enough on your own. Not required homeworks and such. Nor required attendance at lectures, which I have heard is common in the US.
Reading a bit more I should perhaps also mention that GPA doesn't exist here. So perhaps there's some less pressure there. I did decently well in grades though, better than my friends who just cared about passing.
Any advice for a wageslave looking to switch to CS? I have a liberal arts and biology degree and work in a lab. I did Harvard’s CS50 and realized CS is incredibly based for an autist like me. I’m tired of trying to fit in with medfags. I’m looking at bootcamps but are they a complete scam or what?
My favorite exercise is dumbbell rows
I study CS here in the UK at a decent (red brick) uni, in my 3rd and final year. Have always been good at exams and done well academically to preface, but I don't find I need to do much at all. 2h a day 5 days a week (if that tbh) will secure me a 1st class degree. I am big on the 80:20 rule and try to be as efficient as possible when studying, only spending my time on the most important and relevant information as per the exam. It has been a breeze so far apart from a couple retarded exams due to professors being retards, but they always get scaled up anyway.
Are degrees that much harder in America or are you guys just all at top 5 unis? My experience has been almost laughable tbh, a passing grade would require almost no work at all and the top grades don't require that much more.
Of course I imagine if you're at Oxford, Cambridge, MIT etc it's gonna be a different ball game but this has been my experience anyway.
You have no assignments, as in programming stuff? That's the thing taking time I find. The only course I have laid that little time on is probably the introduction to programming course, were we made some simple C stuff. Many small assignments.
Yeah I've had assignments but never large, usually something like 200 lines of code max. They're usually well explained and it's pretty clear what needs to be done. It's usually something like write an algorithm to do x, then alter it do to y and z.
I've been using chatGPT to work through most of my final year project as well which has probably made things a lot easier to be fair, use chatGPT friend its cheating
Well those seem much smaller than ours then. So that may be an explanation. We were writing full programs. Our intro course were more like the 200 lines stuff, but a bit shorter probably.
>using chatGPT to work through most of my final year project
Now this is spooking me a bit. Didn't believe this would actually be usable. Perhaps the future as a programmer isn't that safe after all.
>use chatGPT friend
I already have my Master's. I'm the Swede above.
Yeah that explains a bit, we've never been asked to produce an entire program, I was actually gonna write that in my post. I guess I got pretty lucky in my workload for my degree but at the same time I haven't developed much in the way of practical skills
>Now this is spooking me a bit
It's nowhere close to replacing a human (yet) but given the correct prompting and guidance it can save you hours and improve your productivity tremendously. Its able to debug, come up with (intelligent) solutions to your coding issues, suggest how to structure your code and things like that. I imagine it may not be massively useful to a really experienced programmer who has seen it all before, but for anyone with holes in their knowledge its a game changer for sure.
I’m not saying American colleges are better, I’m just saying that there is a reason Steve Jobs and Bill Gates didn’t go to England for an education
I hope this is a troll post.
Bill Gates dropped out and Steve Jobs was the guy with the ideas and marketing, Wozniak did the code.
Yesh... My first uni was like this. I was basically a neet who spent 90% of his time on SwoleShack ricing his cringe linux distro and still passed with an "excelent" diploma. I am however considered very smart by other people.
But now that i am in an actual uni doing my masturbators degree i wanna rope. Constant work, no gf, absolutely going under. I really shouldnt ace everything im doing. I am still using gnulinux but i just use stock kde.
Currently in the last year of masters for finance.
I unironically have not learned anything, barely study and have no idea whats going on
Failed all my business courses but will hopefully be starting on adderall soon. Thinking I should just change into CS at this point, no? It has way better career prospect but it's actual work as far as courses are concerned. I'm not retarded, I just became super depressed after covid and couldn't focus on work at all, same idea before but grades were only marginally better. Obv. medication isn't the only thing that would help, but i've tried all sorts of other shit and none of it stuck. I'm willing to relearn it all but as it stands I'm in an endless cycle of trial and error hence meds
I was doubtful going into cs in the first place because it's math heavy and I have no idea if i'd be good at code in the first place so business seemed like the better option.
You're studying what is without a doubt the easiest STEM degree there is. You're just a pussy
You could've been learning asm in this time and become literally irreplaceable, but you do you I guess
And what is asm?
>what is asm
Comp sci btw
It's assembly - you hardcode CPU instructions. While it's implementation dependent, there is no way to make faster code given you know what you're doing. Compilers will never as good as humans at optimization tasks.
>Compilers will never as good as humans at optimization tasks.
Funny they taught us otherwise. That at like 32-bit machines and higher the compiler will make better optimizations. Or are you talking about more smaller, integrated systems stuff?
Even Intel compiler still oftentimes struggles with vectorizing loops with shuffle instructions.
Regardless of architecture btw.
On complex algorithms, you can surpass compiler optimizations twice or even thrice.
Even then, for compiler to optimize something, someone has to optimize it manually themselves.
Eh.
Tl;dr your prof is shit at optimization so he drags you down to his own level
>Tl;dr your prof is shit at optimization so he drags you down to his own level
To be fair, he was a integrated systems professor, not an efficiency/optimization one. He was also quite relaxed about everything and probably mostly worked with that stuff. So yeah.
Anon is retarded, yes humans can make specific algorithms faster with asm-level optimizations
No, you absolutely will not be hired straight out of college to go make assembly optimizations on some obscure algorithm that google uses to sort the jigglyfloops faster when there’s 100’s of Jin Yangs doing this as their thesis
this is why i dropped out of college, claimed mental illness welfare and play league of legends, smoke weed and go to the gym all day
I struggle with this too anon. Mechanical Engineering is kicking my ass
>i barely have any free time
>in between going to class full time, going to gym and working
You are retarded.
Same. It's all so tiresome.
Still a lot better than being a neet
In the next 5-10 years coding jobs are going to be automated and ba's, software engineers or project managers are be able to type what they want to make, it will geenerate some code, and them it's a matter of wiring things together.
This is going to result in a few situations
1) less people employe overall, meaning only more talented people get jobs (is this you?)
2) you are paid less
3) Those that loose work are going to go to manual labour jobs, do you have the capacity for this?
Be prepared to be competing HARD for positions in the few years, or go do something else
Remind me when low level performance optimization gets automated.
>pro tip: you never will, because that will never happen
No one needs shitty slow code, and if you can't write decently fast code, you don't deserve your job anyway.
This is false. Everyone says this, but I’ve never seen IT departments shrink since I’ve been in the industry
>This so-called automation hasnt happened yet, so its never going to happen, ever
t. Assembly line workers in the 1950s.
The painful truth.
Everybody who doesn't fear automation is seriously underestimating the average person's willingness to accept subpar product; and their inability to do anything about it.
Machines don't have to be able to do something as well as a human. They just have to do it cheaper.
>Go ahead. Build your own car.
There literally still are line workers. I’m saying you will always need SMEs. Until everything is automated to the point that you don’t need a helpdesk and tickets, people won’t lose their gig
>1) less people employe overall, meaning only more talented people get jobs (is this you?)
Think I'm pretty talented, or at least has the possibility for it. Not worked much yet, just finished uni. Learn fast. But I lack ambition, so perhaps I'm fucked.
>2) you are paid less
We will see how it will stand up against other work.
>3) Those that loose work are going to go to manual labour jobs, do you have the capacity for this?
My first education was an electrician/automation one, so I probably have a possibility there.
why are you working? are your parents too poor to support you? if that's the case then tough, if you're doing it because of retarded pride reasons or you need more money to blow on hookers then you're a homosexual.
OH GOLLY GEE LOOK ANOTHER MASSIVE THREAD ON FIT WHERE PEOPLE DISCUSS THEIR CAREERS/SALARIES/COLLEGE EXPERIENCE
>EVERYONE A GENIUS STEM MAJOR
>EVERYONE PARTIED NONSTOP IN COLLEGE AND HAD TONS OF FRIENDS AND SEX YET STILL GOT TOP GRADES IN THEIR DIFFICULT STEM DEGREES
>EVERYONE BECAME A SOFTWARE ENGINEER OR ANOTHER TOP WHITE COLLAR JOB MAKING A MINIMUM OF A QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR WHILE ALSO BARELY DOING ANY WORK AND FUCKING AROUND ALL DAY
>EVERYONE OWNS 2 MANSIONS, 5 CARS, MARRIED TO A MODEL, WITH AN ADDITIONAL MULTIPLE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS BY AGE 25 AND WILL RETIRE TO A PERFECT LIFE WHEN THEY ARE 40
Why are there always people like you? It baffles my mind. Things can actually happen in real life dude. Not everything is made up. You would experience some things too if you weren't at your computer all day and/or actually tried things.
>remember back to my pre-college life
>always had 4.0 GPA or above in middle school and high school
>despite this, never really had any ambition for a career or even a degree to study because my social retardation made me not care
>study something my parents tell me to do that I had no interest in, wasn't even a smart degree like engineering, computer science, something all the autistic losers on SwoleShack do
>do pathetically and now over 30 years old and have gone nowhere in my life because a mouth breathing retard in addition to a complete social autist outcast
>really don't even remember anything at all from college, whether studies or social things
>have to read all these threads on SwoleShack all the time about how rich and smart and successful and happy everyone here is
WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I KILL MYSELF WHEN I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL. COLLEGE WAS LITERALLY THE MOST MISERABLE EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE AND IT SET THE FOUNDATION TO ABSOLUTLEY RUIN MY LIFE
whats ur job?
There's a motto at MIT, aside from all hail pass fail:
>job
>fun
>sleep
Pick two.
>all this rage against the pajeets
My first job out of school (EE) was entirely fixing shit that got royally fucked because some retarded executive thought he had a totally brilliant and unique idea of outsourcing design work.
Every fucking executive and project manager thinks he's a fucking genius for trying to outsource work. Every executive and PM soon find out that it takes three times as much money to fix a shitty job than it is to do it well the first time.
As much as I hate the pajeets too, I have to thank them as well, because without them I wouldn't have gotten so much experience so fast and easily. I legit have never applied for any jobs beyond the first. I was just so in demand each that successive company sniped me from the previous to fix their shit.
>EE
What was your job? anon
I thought everyone just starts studying 3 weeks prior and never looking at the material beforehand.
Also fuck you Anon, I will graduate in my 30s it is over.
Life is work.
It's worth it, anon. Studying and working at the same time is a nightmare, but ever since I only have to "work" it feels like I'm on a never ending vacation compared to what was before.
>It's all just studying, gym, cooking, sleeping and working part-time 10h.
>gym
>cooking
>working part-time
I had my mommy cooking tasty meals, didn’t work and didn’t go to the gym.
I didn't even realize I was going that last spring semester to be fair. I'm probably gonna end up doing it again. I had an accumulative 4-5 free time hours, but the gym and meal prep ate up 3-4 hours of it. I was literally busy form 4am-7pm and then I'd get on my computer to relax and then just decide i'm to exhausted to relax and slept. crazy shit, manual labor and gym for physical exhaustion, cutting and compsci for mental exhaustion
>cumpooper th-ience
fag
t. aerospace chad
Dude idk if your program is super tough or something but I literally worked like once a day every 2 weeks and did fine. Idk if that makes me smart or if you’re just retarded but its the same situation in the work place
I don't understand how you manage to conjure up the will to study tough shit daily for hours on end and work part-time on top of that. I find no will to study, no love for anything, I hit the gym 3x a week and rest of the time just rot. Work entry level jobs from time to time, those are fun when they're not complete shit and give a sense of purpose in life. It is honestly so entertaining I wish I could do them for the rest of my life, but nobody wants a man who can't even buy a home.
Everything has just gone to shit, maybe it was fucked up from the start and didn't show before getting to uni. Doing nothing should be comfy but it feels like hell. I don't see how I could ever develop any semblance of discipline.
CS majors are by and large retards. The only worthwhile CS class is Algo/DS and all that shit is much better done by mathchads. CS naggers barely understand induction and asymptotic analysis, and if they do it's surface-level understanding because very few of them take real analysis. Protip: anyone who hasn't taken real analysis is a retard. CS is saturating and it will be very entertaining watching the value of that degree going to zero.
