Does a bike offer good fitness gains, comparable to jogging? I just see a lot of old/fat fucks on bikes daily and doubt they could jog the distance, so bikes make it easier?
Anyone here bikes to work, if yes, how do you stop your back from getting drenched in sweat while having to wear a backpack? My work place is 10km away, is that even possible for a shit-tier cardio guy like me?

I have a backpack designed in a way that it isn’t touching my back directly besides the shoulders and at the bottom. Works well

I wasn't aware special biking backpacks were a thing. I googled them and there are even somewhat affordable, but they look like any other backpack to me, guess I'll have to make a bit more research.

I will google them. Yeah, I remember a few years back I had to bike with opposite wind and I straight up had a horrible time. I was moving at a snails pace while having to kick like crazy, but grannies flew past me like a breeze, so I always put it on my shit bike. I think the only way I can keep using a bike long-term is if I am having fun so maybe I'll eventujally have to upgrade it.

Because I believe if you bike so much it's fun but you can only have fun with a reasonably good bike. Not saying you should go out and buy one of those 1500€ ones, but I had really shit bikes in the past and those were no fun.
I got one like pic related for 300 bucks used. Made in the nineties, out of steel and with Shimano 105 parts (don’t know if they came with it or were Upgrades)
I think the most important part is that everything works well. I can’t imagine a well serviced bike that’s not fun to ride around. Buddy of mine had a mtb that was like 450 bucks new (I think it was a Scott), thing was very poorly assembled (as in, gears not adjusted, screws not torqued, etc.) but once everything was in order that thing lasted him for years

I like riding bike. I got a really old one. Sometimes it's annoying bc I have to keep pedalling really hard while other run smoothly at the same spot.
I rode it like a psychopath to lose some weight (-31lbs) some years ago. Afterwards I started to jog too but I still prefer riding bike. When I got time and weather is well, I love to go outside for a 3 hours ride.

been riding my bike everyday for about a month now. Quad_gains.exe. Cycling is concentric work only, so you dont get very sore from it and it profits a lot from stronger legs. For Endurancy its all right, but not as good as running.
10km ist pretty ez but it depends a lot on the speed you are cycling at. 15 - 20 kmh is pretty ez.
What kind of bike you should get depends alot on if you wanna ride it in every weather condition or just when its sunny and dry.
The former, you will need disc breaks, good tyres with profile and a hub gear but it makes the bike heavier and a bit slower. When its the latter, v-brakes and slicks are enough as long as you ride on the street. About 500 to 800 € is probably nessecary.

Bike offers no gains at all, you either have to go for absurdly high RPM or do 500 weight squats on pedals in a row (then see how good it reflects on you). It is "fitness" for girls and 50 years olds, cycling is more similar to something like hiking.
how about you forget about the fitness aspect and get an electric bike, 10km is a breeze on one of those.
If your bike already has a rear rack or has the mounting points for one you should ditch the idea of a backpack completely and instead go with a pair of bike specific bags from Ortlieb or Vaude, pic related. They may be a bit more expensive, but they're worth it for the comfort and durability.
