Well I pretty much disagree with everything you are saying but it doesn’t matter. I work out and run 40 miles a week because I feel a sense of emptiness inside me that I can’t really articulate. I think various things will make me happy and they do for a short while but then I’m back to realizing that I could be doing so much more. So exercising myself into the ground helps with that. In another 3 years my anxiety will have turned my physique into something incredible.

No. Those are just pictures of what an average guy with an average frame and average muscle building genetics looks like. You get most of your gains during the first few years and then. Most people will get that or only slightly better than that and it's perfectly fine. What's the point of roiding if you're just lifting for looks and health? The roids are not going to fix your frame or your genetics and, unless you're an athlete or bodybuilder, you're not competing for anything so you don't need a competitive advantage. Even if you wanted to be a body builder, unless you have the genes that let you put on 50 lbs of muscle just from looking at weights and having the ideal genes for androgen receptors, you'll lose every contest. No. Those are just pictures of what an average guy with an average frame and average muscle building genetics looks like. You get most of your gains during the first few years and then. Most people will get that or only slightly better than that and it's perfectly fine. What's the point of roiding if you're just lifting for looks and health? The roids are not going to fix your frame or your genetics and, unless you're an athlete or bodybuilder, you're not competing for anything so you don't need a competitive advantage. Even if you wanted to be a body builder, unless you have the genes that let you put on 50 lbs of muscle just from looking at weights and having the ideal genes for androgen receptors, you'll lose every contest. You consider all the people at the gym who go on a cycle and look the same in spite of that cycle because they either didn't take enough, they didn't have the genes for maximal response to roids, or both.The roids would be a waste of money at that point and it would be better to just focus on making sure your exercise is sufficient to ensure you maximize naturally attainable muscle mass and maintaining it for the maximum fitness benefits, eating healthy, and not worry about comparing yourself to other people.
I get the feeling that forums in general greatly underestimate 2 things (which also interact with each other)
- 1) the ability to understand correctly what you need to do to succeed in lifting (you can think for months or even years that you're training well, that your form is good, all of this with information gathered beforehand, when in fact you're not)
- 2) the influence of genetics (which, if it's good, can help you make progress even if point 1) isn't perfect)
I think that as long as forums continue to promote the idea that "lifting's easy" (so point 1) isn't really a point) and that "yes, genetics count, but the differences aren't that large" (so point 2) isn't really a point either), we won't understand the disparities in results we see from anons posting theirs.
To me, when someone posts their progress on the Internet, it's already a sign that they're more invested than the average yokel who pays for a monthly gym pass and doesn't go to the gym, and who doesn't get any information at all. Why assume that people who don't achieve incredible results are necessarily ALL to blame? Do you also presuppose that all those who have great results are doing everything right?
