Nope. Boxers jump rope for conditioning. Which says a lot because boxing is really cardio intensive. Mayweather is a great example of this. The dude isn't known for KO's as much as just being a very defensive (aka boring) boxer who can outlast his opponents.
Biking isn't nearly as cardio intensive, it's good if you're looking low intensity cardio. But if you want to burn calories, jumping rope is far better.
How do you know he didn't? Kept that doping secret long enough to generate hundreds of millions for a cancer foundation. Maybe he didn't advertise his workouts either.
>Biking isn't nearly as cardio intensive, it's good if you're looking low intensity cardio.
Go ride on a steep mountain or a difficult trail. It all depends on how much intensity (You) put on it, as well. Do you think jumping rope like a little girl will do anything for your conditioning? Of course not. Well, same goes for everything else. It's like rowing slow as fuck, or being hellbent on making your session as fast as you possibly can. Night and day
And the 1st best exercise for making shit of your knees. All that weight shocking your joints over and over. Your knees can take a certain amount of wear and tear over your life and then they're done, whether that happens when you're 90 or you're 45 is up to you. Anything you intend to do on a regular basis that has even the possibility of harming the knees should be out, at least unless you're a very light weight.
I disagree, for one your statement is just too goddamn broad. The difference a guy like mayweather who weighs 150 lbs vs a guy who weighs 300 lbs putting pressure on their joints is totally different. Then on top of that you are comparing it to what? Other forms of cardio? I'd take jump rope over running on asphalt any day of the week.
And then their is convience and cost. Swimming is arguably better on your knees, but worse for your shoulders. Swimmers literally have something called swimmer's shoulder which is basically shoulder impingement.
Lastly, it's cheap as shit. You can literally buy a jump rope for the cost of a meal. Getting access to a pool, fitness equipment, a bicycle, pretty much anything other than running is going to be far more expensive. Hell, you can even jump rope in your bare feet if you want.
Jumping rope is great for burning calories and is agility skill specific in teaching advanced coordination in all stages of progression
It also uses essentially the whole body and is great for off days when you've adapted, at first it will probably need to be part of an alternate rotating splits (every other leg day being a skipping jump rope day)
Or
you'll need to start in moderation, working with sets based on fighting rounds (3-5 minutes on, 30s-1 minute stretch rest, then 3-5 minutes on)
Start with one round once a day (3 mins, 30 second rest) , then move on to two rounds (3 minutes, rest/stretch 30, 3 minutes rest/stretch 30)
Then move on to 2 rounds of 4 minutes, and eventually 5 minutes, twice a day
Don't do more than 10 minutes a day for the first weeks and wait a few weeks for each incriment or you're extended recovery period will negatively impact other leg training.
Jumping rope also allows for significantly advanced skill progression after sufficient cardio and muscular endurance are acheived.
You can progress from standard hop jumping to alternating toe touches (boxer skip) and eventually (when your explosive power and mainly coordination are on point try adding double unders.
You can mix and match different skips on the fly to increase complexity, coordination and intensity all at once!

and don't forget
ALWAYS STRETCH YOUR CALVES DURING REST AND AFTER JUMPING
if you are a beginner YOU WILL GET SHIN SPLINTS if you do not do this religiously from the very beginning!
High intensity circuits are also underrated for heart rate and calorie burning, but not ideal for strength gains (although for the endurance and cardio well adapted it can be great for time effective hypertrophy training.
Jump rope is underrated regarding energy use and efficiency

Jump rope is less intensive then running and great for the knees if you do it correctly and don't over jump
Cardio is good, find one that works for you.
Jump rope is effective but can get boring while hoping in one place. Good calf exercise and needs minimal space. If you are first starting out it will be more difficult than you think. Little kids do it with no effort but adults struggle with the extra weight.
I hope you guys realize how dumb you'll look jumping up and down without a rope because you're afraid of tripping when you're literally jumping in place. All you end up doing is hitting your toes with the rope. How much force do you think that rope has when it's swinging? Enough to knock you over? How dumb are you?
This, in fact no rope is better because you won’t trip yourself accidentally.
>no rope is better because you won’t trip yourself accidentally
Part of the appeal for rope jumping for boxers is that it builds coordination between different parts of your body so the tripping part (and learning not to) is actually a good thing in that case. If you don't care about that you can just do jumping jacks or burpees I guess.
Cardio is a meme
Post body immediately tubby

Jump roping is probably the 2nd best exercise for burning calories. The 1st being burpees.
What about bike riding & boxing?

so why didn't lance armstrong just jump rope all year and then smash everyone at biking

It's way less harmful for the knees than running in my experience. You just don't land as hard and always on the tip of your toes.
>Your knees can take a certain amount of wear and tear over your life and then they're done
lol.

P.S. IF YOU SHAVE YOUR CHEST U GAY AF YO
the rope itself is a meme, you literally do not need the rope if you're using it for exercise

i lost 10kg in 10 weeks from doing jump rope only and 1500 calorie diet
How often do you jump rope? And do you just do 1-2 minute sets? Redpill me anon
daily, 1 minute freestyle then 15 seconds rest
repeat 20-30x depending on how bad your calves and feet hurt
honestly its the diet that made me thin, jumping rope just keeps my mind occupied
>necessary?
no but it sure helps with cardio, especially if you don't like wasting time.
Try jumping rope for a minute straight.
>One Minute
Try 10 minutes consecutively & get back to me larp
Post webm of you jump roping.
I'm sorry but if you don't do 30 minutes of jump rope before your muay thai training I'm afraid you're not gonna make it.
I'd like to jump rope at home but it makes so much noise, so I'm stuck doing Burpees for cardio
