I'm insecure now

A smug Australian man on the Politics Discord server who works as a pharmacist told me that calisthenics are a waste of time. Now I don't feel comfortable doing it because that's basically all I do besides cardio. Please help me gain my confidence back

I find it very easy to dismiss the opinions of people who do not truly care about me.

If you enjoy calisthenics and have fun doing it, it's better than doing nothing. Stop letting randos on discord choose your life for you.

Every single person is flawed. When you realize this, it is easy to disregard judgments that people make of you. The only judgment that truly matters comes from the big man upstairs.

          >Every single person is flawed

it's hard to say this to myself when you hear the buzzing mind-virus that is the voice of someone with a god complex. I logically know you are correct about what you said, but my hindbrain is really strong and it's hard to fight it

That's why you need the real God, He will give you confidence and assurance.

Mortal beings will lose their power over you.

Faith will give you hope and confidence.

Calisthenics is more volume based work than weight lifting in terms of power shitting, even olympic weight lifters used to do huge amounts of volume compared to powershitters for a good reason.

It not only made you strong, it gave you a solid body as well.

he said its ineffective and doesnt do anything to help you and that you should just lift weights instead

        Anonymous

Nah, anything is effective for what its designed to do. Like if you want a great physique and want to do cool tricks on bars, then calisthenics is the way.

Not effective for what? If they are talking about building muscles then sure you are better off lifting weights

He's not far from the truth.
You might end up looking great but it will take a LOONG time and you'll only reach a certain size/build certain muscles
Weight training is simple to be symmetric in your training and not waste time doing hundreds of reps for results
They aren't mutually exclusive. Each has benefits. Why don't you do just try doing a couple days a week weights and see how you feel?

      about it

  7. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

    >Calisthenics is closer to low weight high rep lifting aka "lifting for volume"
    >There's nothing inherently wrong about this. What matters most is the amount of work done
    >If you recall from physics class: Work = Force x Distance
    >Lifting translation: Physical Exertion = Weight x Reps
    >in my experience maxing "physical exertion" is what leads to muscle building and feeling like you got a good workout

    Using a real life example:
(low weight bench): 135 lbs x 20 reps = 2,700 units of force
(High weight bench): 225 lbs x 5 reps = 1125 units of force

In this case, doing less weight and higher reps leads to more "work" being done and I'd argue; increased hypertrophy.

Do whatever keeps you motivated. All it matters are on the long run: if you like doing calisthenics, enjoy doing it, it has been motivating for a while. Keep doing it, and you will get stronger and stronger and muscle also comes.

Persistence is the key. It doesn't matter what you do, what matters is how many years are you doing it consistently.

Sure it wasn't like young Mike Tyson's entire fitness routine was centered around calisthenics. That Aussie is full of bs. Calisthenics are a great way to build muscle and endurance at the same time while minimizing joint and tendon damage that power lifting can cause. The guy reads labels for a living. Don't listen to him.

    Now WEIGHTED calisthenics - that's another thing/

do you want to strictly do the most optimal thing or do you want to do what you like?
Is it a waste of times if it undeniably gives results, but not as efficiently as other methods?

I think the guy in this video never trains with weights, if you think this looks cool then keep going. If eventually you'll decide that you want do something different, like lifting, you'll have a much stronger base to start with than that of a dyel anyway.

If your goal is to make gains and look good, he's right. you should be doing weighted callisthenics or lifting weights. If you just enjoy it for what it is there's nothing wrong with it. You do you.

aaand here we go again with people having strong opinions about calisthenics despite not knowing what calisthenics is about
try working your way up towards 1 arm pullups, front levers and shit like that without building a shitload of muscle along the way (even more so if you're not a featherweight manlet)
thinking calisthenics is about doing hundreds pushups is like thinking lifting is about benching 80lbs for dozens reps
your idea of calisthenics derives from dragon ball or whatever, you've never done the actual thing
