Kung fu is based when it's kickboxing with throws. That's about it.

Yeah just as I said. Can’t call something worthless if it can go 5 rounds with a relentless fighting machine like buakaw

actual traditional schools all perform kung fu and sanda training. f.e. chinese military. its 1/3 cardio 1/3 technique (kung fu) and 1/3 sparring (sanda)
That's called Sanda, not kungfu, and it's totally different
TOTALLY different
It's not completely different, the one is the whole self defense system, a martial art and the other is ITS combat sports variant which is crucial to actually learn and understand the martial art.
Yes you can be a good sanda fighter without ever learning kung fu, but youll never be an actual kung fu master if you have never trained sanda.
I train both and I think its really cool to train techniques at light kung fu training so I can train everyday. I couldnt do sanda everyday, only like twice a week. But with kung fu in between it accelerates my learning curve

>t. DYEL nerd with glasses still disillusioned and pretends that movie stunt martial arts are real
I want to learn Wing Chun and get fit. Does anyone here have experience with martial arts?
At least do jeet kun do. Wing Chun is like the worst performing martial arts when put against other martial arts.
1. northern styles are optimized for northern china grounds. Stone rough urban
2. Southern styles are optimized for something completely obsolete today. wet ground and rice fields
3. hong kong styles are optimized for teaching 30 people in a closed. all of their movements that maybe have initially made sense in the first generation have been completely perveted to bullshit
The only reason why wing tsun is known in the western world is that hong kong opnened itself to the west before the rest of china did and so wing tsun was spreaded. Within china wing tsun is a really small and unknown style, nobody takes it serious.
Also that is not quite right. Kung Fu has always been about actual fighting. Its just that today (thanks bruce lee) esoteric idiots think some hand techniques make a good fighter and thus request schools like that.
wing tsun is trash because of
thats not the issue

But the dancing aspect, the Taolu, has a different reason and that is not some esoteric bullshit. The Taolu have been made so people could remember techniques because they couldnt write back in the days. Thats also why the techniques have all these beautiful names like "the monkey steals the peach" (which is a slap in the balls).
But yeah some styles were really impractical even before mao nerfed them, like wing tsun
Go watch sometime who practices wing Chun spar against any other non meme striking material art. All meme techniques go out the window as soon as they get hit and they start throwing normal punches only terribly because that's not what they train. Sometimes they will land some chain punches early on but they literally do nothing.
I do muay thai and BJJ. I train with a guy from thailand and the workouts are brutal. I would gauge how committed you are to how competitive the gym you're going to is. The more you train in competitive martial arts and have a good diet you will become IST
Im going to parasite the thread for my own interest.
>If I have no hard contact gyms in my area, could just bag work substitute boxing classes? (I have muay experience) >Is it even worth it signing up for MMA if I can only go to 4 classes a month?
My work schedule is killing the expression of my martial desires.
Forget that shit, do this instead:
Learn Karate open hand blocking and redirection of blows
Learn Karate basic punch
Learn boxing speed punching
Learn boking hooks
Learn Judo and JiuJitsu holds and throws
Train sumo leg strenght exercises
Train Kickboxing and muay thai kicks, knee attacks and blocks
Powerlift until you are big enough to pick up literally anyone
Sprint practice (Careful with the knees) until you reach enough speed to outrun a trigger at close range.
Congratulations you are invincible (at close enough range)
Ignore all other retards in thread. Don't train Wing Chun its completely useless. If you can only train one martial art then go do wrestling and BJJ at an MMA gym. No-Gi BJJ is essentially this. If you can do another or insist on striking then do Boxing or Muay Thai.
Wing Chun is useless.
Jeet Kun Do is useless.
Karate is useless.
Taekwondo is useless.
Every single martial art that you do not see as a base in MMA is useless or else you would see it.
Both my mma coaches started with karate and there are certainly useful techniques in it. The problem is rather that you have 99% mcdojos in the west. There have been great Karate practitioners in mma (Lyoda, Thompson, Silva) as well as in kickboxing
thats why i said as a base, all Karate practitioners in MMA had to learn every singe other relevant art before they could use Karate, especially when it comes to grappling.
But you are right about McDojos, Karate in general is not horrible but any martial art becomes shit when there is no contact sparring or when 10 year olds are given black belts
Literally all martial arts east of turkey and especially in china are 100% mysticism fraud. The only way martial arts works is if your opponent also cripples himself to fighting like a retard. There’s a reason Asians aren’t making bank being world champion fighters in combat sports. Because when you wave your hands around like an idiot you get your skull fractured by a 200lbs moron
This is the trouble when debating combat styles. Some people are naturally better and more intuitive in combat situations regardless of martial art background. The best fighters could fight in a different style and still kick ass. The worst fighters could fight in a blend of the best styles objectively and still get their asses kicked by a better fighter in an inferior style
Sry I worded that in a weird way, in my language we call martial arts all the stuff that is just an “art”, stuff like Kung-Fu and Aikido. The translation for bjj, Muay Thai and shit like that would be closer to combat sport
What I was meaning to say is that Wing Chun is cool as a sport but you shouldn’t think that you’re hot shit because of it
nah im just fucking around, i agree. traditional martial arts are for cool for larping on your own but if you want to actually be a good fighter you gotta train what good fighters train in
I've trained wing chun for 5 years and switched to muay thai. Wing chun has good ideas and concepts but the way it's trained doesn't make you a fighter, so it's basically useless for what it's designed for.
I did some southern style Kung Fu for several years when I was younger and it's quite fun.
The guy teaching it was constantly shitting on Wing Chun though for all the reasons already listed in this thread.
There is some stuff you can take away from Kung Fu but be sure to spar with other people from other fighting styles to get a reality check every now and then.
Overwhelming physical violence will always be the superior technique in a fight compared to fancy movements and every teacher/sifu who doesn't tell you that is probably going to give you some bad habits.
These are the most recommended because they're are demonstrably effective and pretty much ubiquitous. There are other effective styles but odds are you won't find them within a reasonable commute. Please note that nothing from china is among these exceptions.
Wing chun is really cool IF you know someone else who’s good at it. Fighting other people who practice it looks really fun and it’s pretty safe to go almost 100%. It’s an entertaining art with little practical use irl, but most arts, even Muay Thai are never going to serve you irl. The amount of fights you get into in your life are counted on a single hand, and even than it’s probably 1-2 times. If your looking for good cardio I would just go to a boxing or Thai coach. The conditioning alone is worth it
My point is your not gonna fight, period. I know guys who’ve been training wrestling Muay Thai and boxing for years and never been in a fight. I don’t disagree with you though
Wing chun is the worst martial art if you have to be in an actual fight, but martial arts are great and for your balance and if your reason for wanting to elarn is there is a school nearly then great because you'll be doing it only against other people using wing chun. Otherwise choose a different sport. Browse IST to find more about which one to consider. Best of luck martial arts bro. They are so based
no homo
How am I supposed to fit those in my mouth?
Gee, Bill. 3 giant tree dick nipples?
8. Can be used to anally fuck yourself into a prolapse as a warming up for what's to come after unironically trying to use wing-chun against someone
Why are chinks training with giant dongs attached to trees
At least do jeet kun do. Wing Chun is like the worst performing martial arts when put against other martial arts.
worst performing in what way?
its a fake meme art and any practitioner of a real art will literally kill the guy
Show me a single demonstrably capable jeet kune do practitioner.
>inb4 don inoLARP with zero fight record.
im not the jeet kun do tard, im saying both are meme arts and nobody should practice either of them
Not jkd but Shaolin kung fu and also not the anon you replied to but this guy went up against Buakaw and lived to tell the tale

In every way
Kungfu / wingchun is traditional Chinese dance
It was shit even before Mao nerfed it
what metrics?
Attack, defense, countering, grappling, reflexes, strength, speed, situational awareness, not looking like a retard
Like all Chinese things it's just plain poorly made and doesn't work
thats not the issue

Here is an amateur journeyman mma guy vs a direct student of ip man.
Wing chun, like all kung fu, is an utter joke. Boxing/muay thai + bjj/judo/wrestling
I don't get it, ip man doesn't even hit him
i dunno that wing chun guy has mad hands just zero punching power also he also clearly has no idea what to do in a clinch
Literally all martial arts east of turkey and especially in china are 100% mysticism fraud. The only way martial arts works is if your opponent also cripples himself to fighting like a retard. Do you wanna get athletic and have fun with it? Sure go ahead, martial arts is great hiit
Wanna fight and beat people to a pulp? Do mma instead
do you even know what MMA stands for moron

I too want to become a shadow person and punch corn and hotdogs on a tree
>guys I want to learn martial arts , what style is best?
>bro, wrestling , muy thai , judo , and bjj
Ok, then what other martial arts are worth training for huh?
Judo
Sanda
Kyokushin Karate (good luck finding a nice school though)
Sambo
Judo
Replace bjj with boxing and you’re correct
You forgot boxing and Lethwei
I did some southern style Kung Fu for several years when I was younger and it's quite fun.

>my shitty LARP is superior to their shitty LARP
Dude in my group we can throw lightning bolts and it's pretty effective
Don't discount kungfu in IRL combat
Doesn't matter what I say or you say or anyone says.
Spar with others and see how far you go.
And here comes the
>only BJJ, Muay thai, wrestling and boxing are worth learning!!!
elitists
These are the most recommended because they're are demonstrably effective and pretty much ubiquitous. There are other effective styles but odds are you won't find them within a reasonable commute. Please note that nothing from china is among these exceptions.
The only martial arts worth learning are the ones used in MMA fighting because those are the only ones able to win fights. It really is that simple.
The only cars worth driving are sports cars because they get the fastest times on tracks
Wing chun is really cool IF you know someone else who’s good at it. Fighting other people who practice it looks really fun and it’s pretty safe to go almost 100%. Just do Krav Maga, it’s the most effective for time spent training. So you can spend the rest of your time getting big.
Isn't this the style that teaches you to kick guys in the balls and shove your fingers into people's eyes?
That bottom dildo is downright femboy tier
Go to IST it's good
