I finally went and got half a pound of liver for all the SwoleShack benefits but i just couldnt eat it so decided to swallow just a tiny piece without chewing and i started coughing and almost vomited
What are the consequences of me never enjoying the positive benefits of organ meat
Did you cook it
Yes i even think i did a good job but its just so off putting
That looks delicious. Fucking love liver m8.
lmao. no shit you don't like that
cut it in smaller bits and with some tomato sauce.
I eat it like that, even less cooked actually
You need way more onion. Each mouth-full should be like half onion half liver. It’s never gonna be as good as a juicy steak, but it can be decent enough to enjoy. Looks like you didn’t do a terrible job cooking, just not enough to balance the harsh livery flavor. Liver flavor is good when it’s not the main flavor in play. Adding bacon, garlic, paprika, butter, salt & pepper, adobo, or other strong seasonings can help. Wine is also useful for taming the harsher flavors when cooking gamey meats.
You’re not far from a delicious meal, anon. A slice of rye bread with mustard can also help out.
this. balsamic vinegar is good to add at the very end
Doesn't look bad. First time I had liver it was definitely overcooked, so it was chewy.
I know it seems off-putting but you're focusing too much on the concept of eating liver and not enough on the experience. I eat at least one partially-cooked, runny chicken placenta nearly every morning without a second thought. I think that's more gross than liver.
How are you people so fucking fragile?
I assume you're some sort of subspecies that evolved to eat nothing but bread and lettuce?
it's just an irony steak with a less fibrous texture
you probably have an arbitrary list of vegetables you refuse to eat too you overgrown fussy toddler

Try this recipe, I get a lot of compliments and it tastes pretty good while being very simple and quick
Honest advice, cut raw liver in bite size pieces and cook it like that. I get liver is a bit weird when not cooked well, this way you won't have issues
should have added apples to it.
apple+onion+liver
Blend it with protein powder and milk and chug it, it's easy as hell to get down that way. Also I find the fresher and higher quality the liver is the better it tastes. I once got fresh grass fed bison liver and it was so much better.
I buy like 1kg, remove the outer lining then cut it into around 70g pieces, fry it in a pan and then microwave one piece every day and just eat it with some salt. Tastes genuinely good when freshly cooked, less so when microwaved but not bad
Any specific technique to remove the outer membrane?
I am a bronze age liverposter aswell but lets be honest, if you grew up without eating organs its weird or outright disgusting. But you gotta push through it, do you think a caveman was bitching back then when he catched some game? If you dislike the texture like I did then always put it in your youth with something else. I love my potatoes and rosemary with liver.
Also: Try hearts. No joke, just tastes like ham with a little textue of something made a bouncy ball.
i think this is it, i always loved liver and thought it was weird people dont, but was raised on eating liver decently often so its probably that.
if you hate liver just dont eat it on its own, mix it with other meats, or in a sandwich, depends if you hate the flavour or the texture - texture do above, flavour just overpower it with something like a sauce
If I ask the meat counter guys at Albertsons for heart will they have it somewhere?
Just go and ask for yourself. I went to the grocery store I usually go and asked the butcher for organ meat and some bones to make broth. They had everything I asked for and more. Turns out lots of it go to waste because nobody buys it nowadays. I'm one of the very few people who buys liver there, even. Many weeks I'm the only one. The guy told me that way back in the day, the products that sold the best were organ and pork meat (head to tail stuff). Nowadays? Burgers.
They don't display organs so it's hard to know. I'll ask next I'm there.
Heart is great.
Soak in milk overnight if you cannot stand the flavor.
Does this do anything to the nutritional value of the liver?
I don't think so.
You get used to it and eventually you will love it.
I started eating liver and now I eat kidneys and heart aswell (going to add brain also). From a local farmer and obviously it's beef.
I just chop everything up and put it in a pan with butter or tallow.
Your body will crave it, trust the progress.
unironically it tastes better raw. Try it.
I was eating raw milk, raw eggs, and raw liver for a while. The milk is delicious and the liver doesn't bother me. The eggs were just repulsive every time. I ended up getting sick for about a month. Now I cook my food. Nut up and eat the liver
Raw eggs don't taste bad at all, raw liver is way worse than raw eggs. I drink raw eggs everyday, I love popping the raw yolk in my mouth. People just can't get over the mental idea that they're eating a raw egg. They taste fine.
>i'm throwing away half the eggs protein
grats
That study was carried out on people missing part of their digestive track.
Good luck with that chronic avidin consumption, future baldie
The amount of biotin in an egg is greater than the amount the avidin can bind to.
Still, you're reducing your biotin intake considerably, even if you're not blocking the absorption of all of it
Good thing I also eat liver
just start hunting anon. I hate liver, since I was force fed it when I was little. So what I do: everytime I'm successfully, I cut every bit of the innards into small pieces. Heart, liver, kidney, lung, brain, spleen, tongue, mix them up and make goulash from it. Add some potatoes and other vegetables you like. Season and eat it. You will barely notice the liver and you get all the benefits of the other organs.
Yeah, I have ground beef with heart, kidney, and liver.
I kinda like it, a bit gummy with some bitter flavor. Goes well with rice and some onion
you have to keep it raw on the inside just like a steak. If you cook it too much you cant eat it
fry it with onions at high temperature, then add sour cream, any seasonings for beef, slow cook for 20 mins. It's really good with buckwheat
I'm truly sorry anon. I love the taste of organ meat. I always throw apples in with onions and the sweetness is nice. You could try that. It's a solid combo.
hahahahaha we got one boys
What are the positive benefits of organ meat? More concentrated nutrition?
Love me some liver cooked in butter and salt and pepper and some trader Joe's umami Hispanice with a potato.
You have to be the most infantile homosexual around to have that reaction to a piece of motherfucking liver. Cook it well, salt it, and throw a couple of eggs on the side. Delicious fucking shit. If you want a denser, more compact liver, buy lamb's
It tastes best raw
I don't understand human organs. Are we just robots?
Look at this liver. How is this shit supposed to filter anything? It's just a piece of meat with no tubes, moving parts, nothing. Just... meat. Like your skin. How is it connected to anything? How does it work at all? Jesus the human body makes no fucking snese.
Read the Wikipedia page on livers or something. Also the kidneys are the actual filters.
are you for real? open up a biology book.
fucking google it.
No one does. The universe is infinitely complex, at the quantum level it's literally magic and that's just scraping the surface, who knows how deep the rabbit hole goes. Certainly deeper than our ability to conceptualize it.
Eat chicken liver - it's small and tastes neutral. Also, the animal has to be well fed and kept or it's full of "poison".
I think calf liver is better.
It's called "peasants".
does soaking it in milk to subdue the flavor leech out nutrients? I hear this as a common point of advice to make liver taste better but I'd be concerned that it makes it less nutritious
>tfw my favorite organ meat is brains and I can hardly find it anymore let alone organic/grass-fed
Brains? I don't like the texture by themselves but they go good with scrambled eggs.
Do you live in the Southern US? We have them here in grocery stores like Piggly Wiggly.
you can make liver curry, it will obscure the taste of the liver with Hispanices.
You did remember to soak it in milk for at least an hour, right?
Organ meat is easy to fuck up if you dont cook it right. Could be grainy for people who aren't used to eating it. Like all good things you build a taste for it the more you consume it.
Comes with time, even if you have the palate of a child as you do. Just keep trying to eat it until it gets easy.
I cant thank my mother enough for cooking liver frequently when I was a child (and forcing me to eat it) so I dont have to deal with that 'but it tastes weird' shit now that Im older.
