Its never to old to start a martial art and learn. You however will be too old to try and fight like professionally or some shit. But youre never to old to learn and spar at the gym.
Competitions are just gay wankfests that only the most materialistic of people care about anyways, every one of them no matter the context. If you're not training for yourself and living for yourself you're simply not going to enjoy life.
I did boxing as a young man, then I stopped, and now I can think straight, if you do any sparring where you take hits to the head you are in a constant state of blur, you don't know it while in it though so mushbrains will tell you otherwise.
My boxing training has served me well, fought off two robbers in caracas and I credit that to boxing, had they had guns not so much but they were poorfags.
my point is yes learn the basics on what to do and also do a few sparring sessions, just you know what it feels like to take a punch, when you respond with the correct movement after being punched then you need no more sparring.
my n1 advice is carry a gun if you are american, if legal then carry a knife, if not then be aware and always be on guard if blacks are around. stay safe brothers.
10 year military vet and I can say this is the best advice I have ever seen posted on the subject. The only bits I could add are 1) never show the knife you are carrying. 2) Flash/show your gun before you intend to use it, most folks will take off running if they know you are armed.
I started boxing at 28. I am 30 now with 3 amateur matches with a 2-1 record. It's really fun and makes you muscular while staying lean and your endurance becomes fucking insane. You also get test gains for competing in high stress sparring matches. Just pick a martial arts you enjoy and start practicing it. You can start very slow, don't let anyone rush you until you feel ready but in the meantime make sure to work hard and listen to what the coach says. Simple going to the gym has become too boring to me now.
depends on your test, most people today have half the test men had twenty years ago. if your test is low you're fucked no matter what
