No. Deadlifts build a strong back, glutes, and hamstrings.
Poor periodization can lead to injury, but the risk is there for any lift. Overall, lifting is the safest physical activity though. I have less back issues after 4 years of doing Deadlifts than I did before I started them. I've tweaked my back once or twice from going off program. But I tweak my back more doing mundane shit like yard work.

Those are assisted sissy squats, they have a bigger range of motion than normal squats so they stretch more tendons. If you overload the exercise before you have properly stretched your quads and conditioned your tendons that happens.

I set it up so that the lower edge of the seat is way below my balls

You have the pad too high
Lower the pad so it sits below your waist and balls

Then decrease the angle and work on smooth, controlled motion while contracting your hamstrings and activating your flutes at the top of the exercise
