Obesity is has a relationship with diabetes but you don't have to be obese to get diabetes and there's lot of obese who will never develop diabetes. It's genetics, your optimal diet has always been based on your genetics. The more we ignore it and try to push blanket recommendations based on statistically averages the more we're going to run into this kind of thing.
Just less carbs and more activity at least 500 kcal a day in calories out column every day. But yeah definitely a doctor the only differnce between full-blown type 2 and pre-diabetes is that the damage is mostly organic at this point and can be corrected for with activity and dietary changes. As you enter middle age 35-50 it will definitely get worse if you don't do something about it.
