how did powerlifting shit get so popular?
seems like every gym guy nowadays does squats and deadlifts and they wait like 3 minutes inbetween sets.
what's the point of waiting so long?

what's the point of waiting so long?
I wait 2 minutes for my 5x5 strength stuff like ohp, bench, squat, deadlift and one minute for my 4x8 size building stuff like flies, lunges, rows, shrugs. Helped get me strong and big simultaneously.
there is zero percent chance you are actually lifting 5x5 within a few reps of failure each set if you are resting 2 minutes
>i'm a fat lardass who gets winded form a flight of stairs so you must also be
some people are actually fit
>t. retarded mongloids
it's not about your breath, hand over the bag of chromosomes dyels
weak as fuck guaranteed
jakob ingebrigtsen, possibly the fittest human in the world, rests 3-5 minutes between his gym sets. but no, the keyboard warriors must be right, just 'do cardio'
It's not about being winded, it's about ATP being reproduced in sufficient quantity.
was meant for
do cardio
>what's the point of waiting so long?
You would know if you were strong
Because it's all cope for framelets and fatties.
you'll figure it out when you start lifting
>what's the point of waiting so long?
it's because these people don't actually want to workout. they want to feel like they're working hard without actually puttin in the effort. That's why most powerlifters look like fucking shit anyways
doms classic vids still make me laugh
You actually need about 10 mins between sets if you're lifting maximal 90%+ weight.
idk they're simple, fun, hit a lot of muscles, and guys like to compare them
on the other hand olympic lifts are more complicated
Dunno. I don't like wasting time so I do antagonist supersets and a full body routine every day I work out. Try to hit failure n all that. AFAIK waiting 3 minutes between sets is to fully clear lactic acid to reset muscles to baseline for maximum performance; powerlifters tend to dodge cardio. They train for maximal strength rather than endurance or power, so their lactic acid threshold and reset time tend to be utter shit.
>AFAIK waiting 3 minutes between sets is to fully
Restore ATP. There are also other pathways, that require more time, but 3 minutes is for (almost, since it's logarítmical) full ATP restoration
To recover sufficiently that the next set will be full of effective reps and not trash. Under fatigue, muscular recruitment drops dramatically. No recruitment = no mechanical tension = no gains
Supersetting is a waste of time, most of the fatigue that resting is helping is systemic and not localised (after a set of curls, very little of the total fatigue is bicep related, so if you go do something else you are not actually recovering). It's nothing to do with lactic acid, lifting is well into anaerobic territory (ATP as a fuel source). Don't talk about what you don't know
>ITT: people that don't lift talking about rest times
Right on the money
Why wasn't this the first comment? Practically an inb4 lmao
cause some people have no respect for other peoples time. They think they're so special with their 2pl8 squat that they can hog the power rack for half an hour. And they make up some bullshit about needing all those minutes to recover when they're literally just squatting 2pl8s
you literally DO need that time to recover and for natty 2pl8 is impressive though
2pl8 what, OHP? idk anyone who can do that. i guess 2pl8 bench for reps is pretty rare
I met a guy who could OHP 2pl8, he has typical powershitter physique though
squatting 2pl8s is not impressive. i got there as a skelly after ony 4 months
No you didn't. Unless you think 2pl8 is 2 plates total.
I got to 225 after like 3 months of lifting.
200 pds 5"9
>200 pds 5"9
200 pounds at 5'9?
you're obese bro
Do you even lift
And you have no respect for other peoples time, why should they alter their workout routine and goals for your convenience?
Not that it matters, you'll stand in the corner and seethe for whatever amount of time. You asked again? That's another set buddy, this one is going to be hard so better take those full 10 minutes haha
>why should they alter their workout routine and goals for your convenience?
cause they're wasting literally everyones time including their own waiting that long in between sets. There is no point in waiting that long. Some people got jobs and shit and don't have time to wait for lazy fucks like you.
>There is no point in waiting that long
Yes, there is. It's entirely contextual. If you actually lifted you would know this.
post body
bro you watch no fitness youtubers do you ? listen to jeff nippard and jeff cavaliere they know the best about muscle building and they tell you to wait longer
yep thats right
>these are the people telling you to wait 10 minutes inbetween sets
holy fuck dude I don't watch fitness youtubers cause I just LIFT
bet you won't post shit
>these are the people telling you to wait 3 minutes inbetween sets
kek no thanks
Man you'd completely BTFO him if only you posted a picture that looked better
>Verification not required.
You think a 2pl8 bench for reps is rare, that tells me everything I know.
We both know you will not post body.
As I said,
>contextual
If body is the only factor, 2-3 min rest times are fine. For strength, 5-10 minutes are warranted. You'd know this stuff if you actually lifted.
I said people like you feel like hot shit for lifting 2pl8s and then waiting 15 minutes. 2pl8 is nothing.
You said that in the context of a squat. In the context of a squat, 2pl8 isn't much. But in your case I am 99% sure it's a half assed 1/4 rep monstrosity.
2pl8 for whatever amount of reps might be maximal for the person taking longer rest times, and if his goal for the workout is to hit 2pl8 for whatever amount of reps sets across, he will do good to rest however long he needs to achieve that.
he said squatting 2pl8
how the fuck is 2pl8 not impressive as a natty
repping 2pl8s is a standard milestone. it's rare amongst the general populace but not that impressive in the gym. just proves you aren't a total dyel.
I'm talking about bench ofc. Most untrained guys can rep 2pl8 squat.
>Most untrained guys can rep 2pl8 squat.
yep
>But in your case I am 99% sure it's a half assed 1/4 rep monstrosity.
this just moved to 100%
maybe try to take longer rest times and actually hit depth for once in your life lmao
i'm not the same guy you're arguing with
in what universe?
in the 1/4 rep universe, no beginner is doing 2pl8 on their first day that isn't
>an atrocious unsafe fold over struggle for survival
>squatting 0.5x of their BW
in our universe. granted most men are also overweight and squatting is easier if you're fat
in america maybe
most of the posters on this board are american so yeah I'm assuming in america
>Untrained
>Untrained
>App numbers for people that specifically train
have a nice day. have a nice day. have a nice day
Yeah that's my fucking point idiots. If you need 5 minutes to recover from a 2pl8 squat you're a dyel. You nevere need 5 minutes to recover
you are 100% half repping that shit
Whats your sbd
It isn't, girls at my gym are squatting that
not my fault you have a shit job
Wagey Ragey wahhhh
Get that one back in his cagie
I wait like 3-5 minutes between sets because I'm lazy and like to dick around browsing this website or finding the right song. That said if I notice someone is waiting for the equipment I'm on I'll speed it up, rarely happens at my gym though.
>That said if I notice someone is waiting for the equipment I'm on I'll speed it up
For me it depends on the exercise. When i'm doing bench they can work in if they want, but ideally i'll just take my rest time as normal. If i have the hex-bar, i don't care if someone wants it, it's mine. Only ever saw one girl using it though.
these type of threads are the number one indicator that SwoleShack is like 90% dyels
i WILL take 5 minute breaks
you WILL wait til after im done using equipment for 30 minutes
90% of powerlifters are genuinely just failed bodybuilders who couldn't cope with the intensity of a real hypertrophy routine, the strict diet, or the frequent cardio
goyslop culture makes this much worse
t. 4 year powersharting phase, i genuinely believe i'm correct when i describe 90% of powerlifters this way
this projection is insane
cope fatty
yeah dude the average 16 year old boy starts going to the gym because he wants to replicate this video
when does he lift the weight?
>op thinks a 2pl8 bench is rare and impressive even tho hes made multiple threads shitting on powerlifters
i knew you were dyel but holy shit
do you even read my posts retard? where tf did I say that?
post body
your thread reads as a dyel post
>post body
Still not seeing your response to the other anon, because we both know you 1/4 rep your squats, the weight on the bar isn't even the issue here I just know.
what do you want me to respond to
I said post body
Are you dense? If you want to throw the post body shit when arguing, you post yours first, or at the very least respond with it when someone posted. Otherwise it just becomes a cheap trolling tactic
>fat powershitter won't post his lard body
i know enough
see
(not me)
and either respond with yours, or admit to the LARP
Now you lardboy
>this is the guy telling you that a 2pl8 bench for reps is rare and impressive
lol, lmao even
Show me where i said that
And post body
this is my body you took from the CBT thread 3 days ago you homosexual
https://desuarchive.org/fit/search/image/DLhna3Pbb8HzbHhU-DRMwQ/
ripped from the same thread, this is all probably just another elaborate schizo samefagging LARP
Yea some guys really take their time. Those same guys waiting 5 minutes are the same guys who are gassed after a flight of stairs
Gym girls are hoes
Waiting short between sets gets you more of a bodybuilder body and waiting longer is more for a powerlifter kinda build. Its just what you want really
Powerlifters are just guys who coudlnt hack it as bodybuilders.
Bodybuilding training is so unbelievably fucking easy. The gym part, it's nothing. I did it a while ago while I was injured. Christ, a normal powerlifting session is so much more stressful and exhausting.
You wouldn't understand though, because you're weak.
I met a woman who had a fantastic body, nice big tits and great looking ass, nice face too. I was wondering how she looked so good and what she did. We chatted and turns out she used to powerlift. The perfect post-powerlifting body.
because nobody and i mean literally nobody knows how to program for bodybuilding.
>what's the point of waiting so long?
It's the max recommended time to rest between sets. Simple as.
recommended by whom? fat powershitters?
bro look up jeff nippard on youtube hes big af and he knows everything about lifting. even got a degree in this shit you know
lmao.
He is big because he is 4'9 (150vm).
He knows fuck all about periodization.
Post body and show me how many exercise science degrees you have
Disgusting bbl
Im not into gym girls theyre hoes. I prefer naturally thin girls that dont go gym
>how did powerlifting shit get so popular?
It's easy and seems manly in a world where the men are more feminine than housewives were 30 years ago.
>how did powerlifting shit get so popular
You tell me
No point in lifting if it isn't to improve your performance. I also do train for resistance, but powerlifting is pretty fucking useful as well. It gives me a huge advantage in martial arts and swimming. Olympic lifting is also pretty good to improve your overall performance in cardio, strength and mobility.
>how did powerlifting shit get so popular?
israelites.
Also, it's one of the few "sports" where being fat is a benefit, so American will of course love it.
Who the fuck cares how long you rest for as long as youre making progress I rest fucking 10 minutes or more between deadlift sets
That powerlifting crap is lame as fuck honestly. If you want to gain muscle mass, hypertrophy is what you want to do anyway. Give me 4x12 reps and 20-24 sets sessions to failure any day of the week like the old school bodybuilders did vs squatting 5 reps waiting 3 minutes between each set and having the legs of a 10 year old kid because you are trying to stay lean, or getting fat as fuck because you want to be world's strongest man or some shit like that.
Been doing hypertrophy for years with the annual bulk/cut routine and haven't looked back. Just throw a few sets of 5-6 reps for a few weeks when you plateau to build some strength and then go back to hypertrophy.
I'd rather do 10 reps of slow, controlled 225lbs deaflifts and get an insane back pump vs a few reps of 400lbs with a rounded back, dropping the fucking bar each time and then popping off as if I was the second coming of christ like all the powerlifting fags do on tik tok.
>That powerlifting crap is lame as fuck honestly. If you want to gain muscle mass
retard nagger
pl is not for people who want to be as big as possible, I can not believe this needs to be explained to someone who claims to have been lifting for several years
You even admit yourself that you get stronger by not doing hypertrophy work, you absolute troglodyte
stop shitting up my board
It's fun to see numbers go up on lifts. Also it's attractive to some of the general public because you can be fat and progress (despite most competing powershitters actually cutting hard to make a lower weight class)
Why are women born before 1999 so career focused?
Mine's the complete opposite of that and I wish she was as career focused as I was.
Cuck
A lot of single whores out there
But i notice whores date/marry soft looking men that are easy to manupilate, cheat on or guys with weird personalities (cucks, crazys, psychos). They never marry a handsome guy with morals
>and they wait like 3 minutes inbetween sets.
>what's the point of waiting so long?
Strength training is anaerobic, you dyel. If you aren't resting, you aren't making gains.
Natural Strength training is for real men
I thought 3 mins was the standard for hypertrophy? I wait 3 mins for most of my lifts. Should I lower the rest time?
minute tops
OP doesnt lift
Me and some army guy at my gym are the only ones I ever see doing that shit
most people come to the gym(dyel to beginner tier), then the personal trainer just has them do shit machines at 30% intensity for 60 minutes
Seriously - why are PTs like this
>ib4 they know what theyre doing
yes having a 40yo office worker guy do 60 reps of effortless lat pulldowns is genius
GOD i wish my ass were that fat...
YWNBAW
yes and
Because lifting really heavy weights is fun?
Not even a powershitter myself, but when I step into the gym, I want to pound out reps with as heavy as I can go. You feel like a top dog when you beat your previous PR and it just motivates you that much more to keep coming back for more.
It's all about consistency and discipline. If you aren't having fun with your workouts, chances are you aren't going to put 100% of your effort into it and eventually give up on it.
longer rest periods result in greater gains retard
>what's the point of waiting so long?
Yeah, I should just start cranking them all out in one set. Thanks for the time saving tip, Anon
Powerlifting got popular because strength training advocates promoted heavy compound lifts as the holy grail to literally everyone from bodybuilders to runners. Nobody online knew better.
Im natty and squat 270 for reps. You NEED to rest inbetween sets to let the ATP regen numb nuts.
test
sexoooooooooooo
I rest 5 min between sets for compounds and 3 minutes for isolations. That's how much you need when you're actually training hard and going to true failure
So a minute and a half is too little resting time for compounds?
3-5 mins is ideal, and for truly 1rm days, take allllll of those 5 if you need
I never do 1rms only 4x8 on my compounds and 4x12 on isos
>I never do 1rms only 4x8 on my compounds
missin out on serious strength gains m8 ( which also help bodybuilding)
What is your goal with the set, or lifting in general?
Just hypertrophy, and you truly do not give a shit about lifting light weights spammed for volume x infinity? 1-3 mins, dependent on the lift.
Some combination of strength and hypertrophy? If your goal is to hit x weight for y reps, you take however long you need to accomplish that. There are no downsides outside of wasted time, outside of 10+ where you just start to become cold and undialed.
If you want to do cardio then do it separately, although you can get a cardio effect by super/giant setting a bunch of shit. Total rest time still comes out to 2-3 minutes, you are just taking advantage of antagonistic muscle groups.
As I said here
mostly hypertrophy I'm not really chasing big numbers. I only do 4 exercises per day and I had a short rest time so I could be done in ~45min but I just added 2 more exercises per day but I'm not really trying to spend over an hour lifting. Keeping my routine simple helps keep me consistent which is most important to me. I try to go to just before failure and I've been increasing the weights pretty consistently so far, I've been lifting on and off for like 12 years now and just got back on it like 4 months ago after taking a few months off
Na man i never found it worth it risking injury plus I don't really care that much about strength gains anymore
what was your max weight lifted on any compound
I never really put up any decent numbers but a few years ago I was DL 315 squat 235 Bench 190 OHP 120 all for 5
you tiny as fuck man go lift heavy want if you want to be big
Na man I know how I am and I'd rather do something that keeps me consistent.
thats good enough for today then anon
you'll rebound into old strength levels pretty quickly, then you might stagnate and be require to change things up
ass

>see this thread
People are posting about maxxing their bench at less than 225?
WTF, am I strong?
I am a 5'6" manlet, 195 lbs lol
>195 lbs at 5'6
you're obese, your bench doesn't count
