Yup. Just like anything else. For SOME people who find they simply cannot control cravings and snacking any other way, cutting out carbs can be beneficial. I certainly wouldn't go around espousing ketogenic diets, but it's unarguable that protein is, in fact, more satiating.
It's a great way to lose weight, especially muscle mass.
A workout regime that would lead to muscle growth with a normal diet will, at best, merely stop you from losing muscle as quickly as you otherwise would if you're eating keto.
Note: keto =/= low carb
Just ask a keto poster to post body.
50g of carb can be enough to knock you out of ketosis, especially with a high protein diet that gives your body plenty of substrate for gluconeogenesis.
Nutritional studies typically define "Low carb" as less than 30-40% of calories from carbohydrate.
keto makes bulking much harder for people. and it can be difficult/awkward if you eat with a bunch of other people (work/social events/etc). that's about all anyone knows for sure.
no one in their right mind eats that way. and there's a LOT of people doing it. vegans/vegetarians usually eat that way, as well as a lot of people eating a basic western diet or who are trying to eat "healthy" and "according to the experts".
I don't think it's particularly bad but I see carbs as my fuel, it is quickly available energy I am going to use. Well, if you are sedentary, then maybe you don't need it but that doesn't make carbs bad, it just means you aren't active enough. I also think people get tricked by the initial weight loss, which is all just water weight, and immediately think their diet works just because they cut out carbs. It's good for them if that reinforcement means they can stick to it but they could just eat less overall and get the same results. Also, I fucking hate how it looks and feels when your muscles are depleted.
It's bad because like every other "diet", it doesn't teach you portion control.
I did keto back before it became a colossal joke of inhaling butter. Granted it was more or less just atkins at the time (loads of meat and veggies with carb refuel days). Went from 230lbs to 160lbs in a matter of 8 months.
Got a gf, went back to my old habits, and I gained all the weight back in a matter of 3 years or so.
Keto helps with rapid weight loss, but long term sustainability is kind of dumb. I'd advise cutting on keto but then balancing everything out on your bulk.
You can maintain perfectly well with carbs, and that should be the focus.
Problem with keto is because the theory behind it is lacking.
Yes you need insulin to store carbs and protein as fat. So cutting out carbs to minimize insulin would lead to insane fat loss... if it wasn't for the fact that dietary fat does not require insulin to be stored
So the only reason to do keto would be for health benefits, if carbs are causing bad inflammation in your body or whatever then it'd be useful. But as weight loss for people who do exercise it's pointless and will downgrade your muscles who are glucose hungry
You're misinterpreting the "theory" though. The goal isn't minimizing insulin secretion (that would require low protein as well). Keto helps by getting insulin and glucose back to stable normal levels from high and fluctuating levels. This helps decrease energy swings and food cravings, which in turn help lower food intake (so you can lose weight). But in my opinion keto is most helpful for people with diabetes, dementia, epilepsy, autism, bipolar disorder, some other neurological disorders, and bowel problems. The weight losing benefits of keto are mostly due to cutting out processed foods, which can be done without keto as well.
It's not bad per se, but it's also not some amazing super diet that'll make you lose fat overnight
Compared to a regular healthy diet, it's the same shit except you piss acid and are less prone to seizures
it gives vegans mental breakdowns, sometimes even aneurysms
it also breaks the globohomo lie (that they've invested decades into maintaining) that fat=bad and that low-fat=healthy
It's just the fad diet of the moment. Lots of overweight midwits trying it and getting zero results. But they are happy to talk about it with everyone and act like it's the only healthy weight to lose weight. In reality it's their excuse to load up on butter.
just looking at the average ketolard, having 5 minute conversation with it
greatest argument against keto
people are addicted to carbs and sugar and dont want to give them up
It isn't inherently good or bad. Its a tool which may or may not work for you, depending on your desired outcomes.

what's the difference? always thought keto was just <20/50g carbs per day

I'm not even close to a ketolard who in their right mind would ever eat more than 40% carbs unless you're fuelling for a marathon or some shit
it's just some american shit because they drink and eat like shit

its another meme diet fatasses fall for because they find counting calories too hard and want a magic diet to unfuck their body
