I was never really balding, but taking Vitamin D seemed to make my hair grow faster and also pop up more new hairs which made my hairline look even fuller.

Yes, fin is absorbed through your skin. This is why pregnant women can't even come into physical contact with finasteride or it could fuck up their pregnancy. I noticed this myself when I think I megadosed myself with fin handling it for an hour cutting my 5mg pills into tiny 0.75mg pills.
Topical fin works, the only difficulty is making sure you get it down to scalp level as it's easy to have a lot wind up in your hair if you have diffuse thinning.
