they are helpful if you've worn narrow toebox shoes your whole life and are starting to develop bunions. if you've worn proper shoes for a long time then you probably don't need these. i swear by the Vans Atwood, its the only shoes with a wide toebox that i've found so far that aren't some weird obscure brand.
Walk around barefoot more often, don't walk heel to toe, definitely don't "run" heel to toe, wear toe socks, if you must wear shoes, get Vivo barefoot shoes which don't look stupid as fuck like most barefoot shoes do

I've heard they can help with plantar fasciitis especially if you have Morton's toe (your second toe is longer than your big toe).
